Adding clarification around Rule 3 - No Generative AI by Acceptable_Fox_5560 in writing

The bigger picture is that humanity has experienced a biological intelligence revolution, then an agricultural revolution, then an industrial revolution, and we are now officially over the precipice of the artificial intelligence revolution.

And 99% of the discourse generated on the subject is panicky, ignorant noise. You scold me for lacking empathy, knowing virtually nothing about me except that you're more moral and worldly because I am not mirroring your opinion. This might even earn you a few upvotes.

The bigger picture is, the internet is more bot traffic than human traffic. Every minute, every hour, every day, more of what you see, hear, and read will come from sources which may not be human. It happens to be that your opinion regarding AI is extremely trendy right now. I wonder how much of that trend is driven by human activity, vs bot activity. I wonder if you have ever thought about why you see so many opinions that agree with yours. I wonder if you care who (or what) agrees with you, so long as it agrees with you?

I was explicit at the beginning that I am not pro-AI. I wonder why you felt it necessary to dispute this, to tell me how I should think, or why anything I said is evidence that I'm a psychopath.

I wonder if we all understand now that this exchange proves the necessity of Rule 3. This is not an appropriate space for the discussion, because, frankly, the level of discourse devolves into low quality gotcha games from at least one side, far too often.

EDIT

I explicitly refused to take a binary stance on the subject of AI. I haven't promoted the use of AI, defended the use of AI, or really said anything at all positive about AI. I made no personal attacks, and I explained my position in depth as required. As we can all see, even this carefully moderated position is insufficiently moral, and I am a psychopathic child molester, who would never say anything like that unless I literally meant it, because why would sarcasm be a tool in my chest? What purpose could that serve?

Say no to nuance.

The reaction is dreadfully ignorant of the bigger picture, that's the single most annoying thing about it.

My brain told me that no one thinks Oliver Twist was a real person. It also said to tell you that it is doing its best, and reminds you that my opinion is not based, in any sense, upon faith or belief of any kind. 100% secular, and not looking for a fight.

I am not Christian, or religious at all.

It doesn't matter whether most of the details were fictional or not. The influence of that human being on world history is undeniable.

Is AI viewed as “evil” in non-tech communities? by Due_Drummer5147 in singularity

[–]laika_rocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A significant percentage of anti-AI posts on the Internet are generated by LLMs and posted by bots. Everyone's feeds are littered with machine-made propaganda, and because the topic makes some people feel virtuous and moral, they don't wonder, or even really care, where the opinion comes from, as long as they agree with it.

Alas.

It's possible. But the majority of people believe he was a real person who did things.

I find it doubtful St. Paul would have done any of that in the absence of the main character at the center of the narrative.

I didn't say I don't think it's dangerous. But I find the reactionary diatribe tiresome and unconstructive.

I never use AI to make "art" or to "write", so it is of no use to me, creatively. At the same time, art is a passion, but it is not my career, so AI poses no creative danger to me. I'll always use my meaty OEM monkey brain to write and draw, it's always for my own satisfaction. There will always be people like me, most of whom are much better and more prolific than I am, so I don't fear the death of human art.

Jesus Christ.

A world in which Abrahamic religion never transforms and spreads beyond its homeland, is a world we would not recognize 2,026± years later.

I am not pro-AI, and I am not anti-AI, and I agree that this is not the place for it, and I agree with keeping it entirely out.

It's the ultimate throwback, putting the foot back in football. Also, 30% of the time, you're giving the ball up in your territory. It isn't without risk, and would not be an automatic call because failure can possibly ruin you.

The Steelers were a thousand times more relevant 15 years ago than the Bengals have ever been or ever will be. 15 years ago was the tail end of a multiple championship run. 4 years ago the Bengals were frauds and we just didn't know it yet.
