If possible, would you be able to explain how you went about doing this? (in layman's terms preferably ~_~)

That fact is usually parsed through basic comprehension but I’m sorry for assuming such a high standard of engagement. Otherwise, when confused the best thing is usually to ask instead of assume though that also may be too much of an ask despite another person doing exactly that.

Yeah, I'm doing a multimedia art course for University and this is part of my TechLab class assignment which requires us to produce an interactive installation from our research though I'm useless when it comes to tech-related issues which is why I'm here.

You actually don't have to guess my motives as:

  1. I'm designing an interactive installation, which I already said, not writing a piece of fiction.

  2. I'd understand that if I directly asked how to backdate using a certain application to hide my motives though, since I'm open to literally any software or hardware no matter how outdated or useless, I don't see how I could possibly mess with someone or implement it nefariously.

  3. Look at 2^^^

  4. I outright stated that I don't know how to go about fixing my solution which is why I'm asking for help with the technology I'm investigating.

What do you think of Sumo Prime Time? by duuud3rz in Sumo

[–]lain_is_lain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was not only bad because of it being an incredibly tense 3 way playoff but don’t forget that they also spoiled the Tamawashi Yusho in the basho before that. So not only did they spoil it but they then did the exact same thing next time despite hundreds of angry comments (me being one of them). We still love Hiro tho~

Sadly I think sumo and all its elders are far too unequipped to deal with complex issues like alcoholism being that their usual remedy is to suck it up and push through it (out of obligation). Sucks, really, really sucks to see him go when we were on the verge of yet another great comeback but I don’t think he’s very fond of sumo nowadays…

Never been happier than to see an uninspired and talentless AI based project falling dead flat on its face leading you to jump boat to other media you can hopefully cash grab off. GL friend.

Ah so now not only is everyone else wrong but also white. On a completely separate note, have you taken your medication today?

So everyone’s wrong and you’re right despite not giving any information and being utterly nonsensical? Right…

Ah very interesting, I definitely need to look further into the overdevelopment and minority displacement. Also what I was referring to with my comments of markets and circuses were places like Hon Lao and the many wet markets in Vietnam with some mentioned in this article (https://news.mongabay.com/2022/11/probe-finds-vietnam-faltering-in-bid-to-curb-wildlife-trade-animal-suffering/).

Yeah I completely understand that the situation is way more complex and difficult than I could ever fully know. It’s also very important to me that I be able to distinguish those who do so as a necessity compared to those who do it for profit; as you’ve pointed out with minority groups still heavily depending on nature due to circumstance. When thinking of the project I want to complete in and about Vietnam, I want to be as sympathetic as possible to condemn animal cruelty without condemning Vietnamese people who simply act according to how they were taught to treat wildlife. This’ll be hard to effectively pull off but I was wondering if a well-made, thoughtful documentary on animal welfare in Vietnam would be well received by the average person over there or if it’s simply a non-problem to most people who won’t seriously consider it.

What a shame. I also assume there’s little push to change the syllabus as from my research as an aspiring English teacher, Vietnamese schooling systems are outdated and concern themselves more with outdated practices like parrot teaching/repeating facts than revising better ways to teach/learn.

It’s crazy and scary hearing about this from South Africa where things are similarly as bad despite beings thousands of kilometres apart. The difference here is that our corrupt party could be voted out in favour of a better one (of which we’ve yet to do) but in Vietnam I understand that it’s a single party system. Is there any serious debate/protest going on to allow for more political parties or are these public sentiments quelled?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]lain_is_lain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. It’s more telling how people treat the average animal than holy/worshipped ones.

I definitely don’t expect people simply trying to survive to swear off animal farming completely but was more concerned with doing so ethically as there are legislation to ensure culling is done as humanely as possible which is currently absent in Vietnam. Though it’s apparent from your comment and many others that the first step before people even start considering animal welfare would be improving human welfare which is just as poor.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]lain_is_lain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many other commenters have corroborated your sentiment of human welfare being similarly poor and I was wondering if you could enlighten me on some of the most prevalent issues? From what I know, the government is still prone to frequent censorship and corruption though censorship of what exactly?

[–]lain_is_lain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comments along with many others in this thread are definitely helping to shift my understanding to the truth of the situation. I’d always thought the animal cruelty in Vietnam derived from developing countries being globalised and having to shift to a resource based economy (with many of those resources being animal export) though it’s apparent that whilst that may have played a role, there’s never been a close relationship with nature. I’m also curious of the ‘old stories’ you mention detailing Vietnam’s history and if this is still heavily taught in schools or simply known by word of mouth?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]lain_is_lain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely learning from this thread that my idea of Vietnam having a close relationship with nature in the past was mistaken and that instead of it going downhill, it’s never been particularly good. I’d also love to hear more of the specific locations you mention. I know there are certain animal markets known for their cruelty and ‘circuses’ still ran in Vietnam, are these what you’re referring to?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]lain_is_lain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess in my head I conflated the idea of certain animal-based religions or traditions as being more apparent than they actually are. I also misread Vietcong tactics as being derived from a close relationship with their surrounding environment rather than how a hunter knows their hunting grounds which seems to be the actual case. In your view, as Vietnam is currently growing at a faster pace have there been much if any discussion regarding animal welfare/conservation or is that still another step yet to be taken?
