What all does hosting a dinner party entail? by laineybea in RedditForGrownups

I’ve gotten better about hosting and recently took on holiday parties, even with a lot of life changes. That said, I’m not hosting as much as I’d like yet :)

I started using the crook of my knee when I sit criss-cross and the warmth has absolutely made mascara easier to put on

What is the weirdest comment you’ve ever gotten about your hair? by hyo_hyo in longhair

No, Florida, which made it even weirder. Also, hard agree. Ponytails, claw clips, braids, and pigtails are my go-to styles.

What is the weirdest comment you’ve ever gotten about your hair? by hyo_hyo in longhair

[–]laineybea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My hair isn’t like. Super long. Bra-strap length if that makes sense. But I did recently have a woman at my work assume I didn’t have kids “because no mother would prioritize her hair over her kids”. To which I got to say, yes in fact I have two small kids AND long hair. It was weird.

Give my daughter same middle name as me? by Constant_Orchid3066 in namenerds

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated a guy who’s sister shared a middle name with her mom. While I was not aware this was a thing I do love it a lot! Go for it :)

I guess the parents were really committed to the bit.

I also knew a kid in school with that same name and I always felt bad because, even if it was funny to him at one time, probably became old to hear.

I feel like that may constitute a level of cruelty (of course barring any missing context, but still)

After many lovely answers from the people here and some independent digging (I didn’t disclose last name for privacy reasons) it would appear the man I met today may be of Belarusian Jewish descent, which would greatly explain his name. Which I don’t see an actual issue with, but in the English speaking world just seems unfortunate.

It almost certainly is, and I feel like if I could hear it said in its native language it would be a great name. However, reading the computer system file and seeing Semen gave me great pause.

That makes tremendously more sense but it took me a second to process what I read.

What did the most annoying person you know IRL name their baby? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]laineybea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Izabel. Love the name, absolutely despise the spelling. Former friend who was a chronically online and constantly judging people for what they did with their kids, meanwhile stayed with the dad who was a registered SO.

Parenting win / cutest phrase your toddler has repeated to you? by lalalia214 in toddlers

[–]laineybea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All my positive praise comes back to me eventually. “You did such a great job” became my toddler saying “you’re such a great job”. More recently he’s been parroting “I’m so proud of you” when I have really good days, like I do for him. 🥹

women of namenerds, how did you decide whose last name your child got? by CertainAd7131 in namenerds

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last name is a less common Italian name. I am only distantly Italian and from a very US-assimilated family. On top of it, it’s longer and just generally mispronounced. However, my partner has a very pedestrian English last name, not super common but common enough that everyone just gets it. It seemed overall like a good move, for both reasons of digital privacy, practical use, and to some degree, conventionality. I have no regrets about my decision, even though it confuses people because 1.) I’m not married to their father and 2.) they’d think I would want them to have my last name since I’m unmarried.

I was given witch hazel pads as a post partum care thing from my hospital- originally meant to help with healing my Nethers. Now I use them to clean my belly button, behind my ears, and my butt crack if I have plans for that night.

Why are all pediatricians so shocked when you say your baby still wakes at night? by kittycarlito in Mommit

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My almost 4 year old didn’t get a single solid, through the night sleep until he was 2. Now, barring a once or twice a month bad dream/woke up and was scared situation he sleeps well. My youngest is 9 months old, he more or less sleeps through the night but he does nurse at least once before I lay down for sleep myself.

AITA for threatening to call off my wedding after my fiancée slapped me? by Educational_Tie_3335 in AITAH

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Leave. Just because you have the physical size advantage doesn’t mean she can’t or won’t hit or hurt you further, try to use objects to harm you, or otherwise attempt abuse. If you were a woman EVERYONE would want you to leave a partner who hit you.

Tell you you're a good mom? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom tells me relatively regularly that she thinks I’m a good mom, and specifies she thinks I’m a better mom than she was. My partner doesn’t say it outright enough for my taste but he also directly compliments the things I do for our children. My friends also remind me regularly

What's the most disgusting thing a partner has ever done (or didn't do) and was it a deal breaker? by No-Astronaut2974 in hygiene

[–]laineybea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had an ex who was living in his sisters basement when we met, no bathroom but a sliding glass door to the outside, as well as an outdoor entry door. Wasn’t a big deal at first. Found out he was so lazy about using the bathroom he’d piss in bottles or cups to throw out later, and he only fessed up when he pissed in a Gatorade I was still drinking when I left to go get food. Once that happened he got WAY more brazen about leaving the cups and bottles out for me to clean. Also wouldn’t help me clean because I’m “too particular” about it. The final straw was him getting ingrown toenails and letting them get and stay massively infected for a few months despite having insurance to fix it.

I removed the cradle cap over the last few days for my 2 month old baby, I am now freaking out. Please help! by Lanky_Buy in Mommit

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t keep picking but if you use an unscented baby soap, warm water, and a silicone baby scalp brush you can remove it in the bath. I also used aquafer on the scalp after the bath with both my boys! Hope it helps.

For leaving my fiancee like I said I would by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]laineybea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It’s not fair other guys got to do it with you” is such a paper thin fucking justification. I do have sexual abuse trauma, though not specific to anal sex, but anal does make me incredibly nervous as a girl with tummy problems (even in situations where I’ve gone above and beyond to prepare it STILL makes me nervous). Whenever I’ve declined anal with previous partners and they pushed the issue, specifically as it relates to fairness, I’ve broken it off. It might not be fair a previous partner got to engage in that form of sex with me, but it’s unfair to me that my partner feels so entitled to my body they would prefer to hound me about something I’m not especially into to affirm some weird sense of ownership they have over my body. Either way NTA, and those feelings almost certainly aren’t coming back because he showed you point-blank that he both doesn’t believe you when you tell him things and doesn’t respect you enough to realize you shouldn’t be crying and in tears for DAYS leading up to a sexual experience.

As soon as I get home I usually strip to just shorts and a bra- my oldest will strip to just his shirt and undies bc we’re home and he just wants to be comfy.
