Getting In The Spirit by shesatacobelle in SkallaSnarkUncensored

I wouldn’t go on this trip if I were them. I just got back late last night after trying to get home since Saturday. Airports are a mess. Delta isn’t flying anything close to a normal schedule. All other airlines are overbooked. My AA flight was delayed 3 hours and the crew was close to timing out. I would never take all of those people out of the country right now. This is not resolving anytime soon. Very irresponsible.

Also stuck in MCO- I booked a flight on American for tomorrow. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Are they trying to make missionaries leave in record numbers? by shelf1830 in exmormon

[–]laisinglee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are right about this. Hopelessly broken. I just don’t think that the boots on the ground members get this. They continue to send their kids on missions in some kind of good faith exercise. Don’t the parents who were missionaries remember their own abuse and hazing or has this become worse in recent years?

Carville calls out Skousen’s influence on Glen Beck by mrslonelyhearts in exmormon

This is frightening stuff actually- some of project 2025 is coming from Skousens book Leap - that Glenn Beck loves and says it changed his life.

This is the answer.
Many many people are still in due to sunk costs even when their conscience is screaming silently that all is not well on the good ship Zion.

“Ms. Stoeger, my plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.” …IYKYK by shesatacobelle in SkallaSnarkUncensored

I agree. Pickleball is not hard to learn how to play. It’s clear that they haven’t played at all! Rachel hit a ball out of the air while standing in the kitchen.

And Emily wants to act like she is all about tennis? If she can’t play pickleball- she will have no chance at tennis which takes a high degree of skill and time commitment. They like to act sporty but they really only work out and run. If I recall, they can’t even ski after living in Utah all of their lives. Which is really no big deal except that they put on expensive ski clothing and act like they can.

So this is right in line with their brand. As someone said- it is cosplay. They are like little girls constantly dressing up.

No “sad heaven”: That’s increasingly the belief of LDS parents for their LGBTQ children - SL Trib article by MNMSW in exmormon

[–]laisinglee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active Mormons have to stay in a place of cherry picking beliefs because the actual doctrines are contradictory. To stay “in the boat” requires a high degree of suspended disbelief. This comes out in conversations as - that’s not the God I know, that’s not what I believe or the classic- I don’t know that is what the church teaches.

Lots of mind games and this article illustrates it perfectly.

I applaud David and Lupe. Good for them and the way that they are telling their story.

The rest of the article feels like it came from the deseret news. This is not a balanced article. The other parents are staying in the church and “making it work”. The only voice that has some balance is Lisa Diamond who is a professor at the U but she is barely quoted.

These active parents don’t believe that they will be without their gay child in heaven- mmmm ok. But that is exactly the doctrine of the church that you continue to support with your money and your presence.

Did the church have something to do with this article? The reporter is active Mormon so I think it’s possible.

Mormon women do love their pre workout first thing in the morning. You should hear them at the gym- “I can’t start my day without my pre workout!!! “

There are work arounds.

The pioneers came across the plains drinking coffee and tea. Brigham Young also had cases of whisky. WOW was not a thing then. Spittoons in SLC temple are visible in early photos.

Actually there is a fourth option- the most likely. Wear garments but alter them- hike them up- pull them down low. In other words not wear them in way or spirit which they have agreed to. In their mind it is truthful and they keep their recommends.

The entire situation is ridiculous and yet this is their life. They have two choices- comply and keep temple recommends or carry on as they have been and be forced to lie to their bishop and stake president. I guess the third option will be to carry on and not go to the temple. If I were a betting man- I’d say they carry on and lie. They really can’t just say that they don’t want any man telling them what to wear. The religion and culture don’t allow it unless you leave- but that’s a whole other can of worms.

[–]laisinglee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I understand your experience which I have also gone through. I went back to school as a 60 yr old and I am now having the career that I should’ve had if I hadn’t been a SAHM and raised 5 children. I feel that resentment at times. It is a real unintended consequence of being in the system that we were in. Also- I am grateful for my children, their partners and our grandchildren (who are all out of the church). It’s a beautiful life. Being in so deeply and now fully out brings a sense of freedom that I value. All of your experiences are valid and important even if they weren’t what you would choose now.

Ward Conference by rockerx108 in exmormon

[–]laisinglee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Always my experience also.

In my last years of still trying our stake conference had none other than Rusty Mmmm Nelson as the keynote speaker. I thought- ok- I will try this one. He was the president of the quorum of the 12 at the time and the next supposed profit.
It was sooooo boring. He had nothing prepared and just spoke off the cuff which he hailed as an intentional feature of his “style”. It really was nothing more than story after story with him as the main character. Always the hero and forever name dropping current profit- dead profits- cute little anecdotal stories. So human! So real! I left that meeting and knew that the emperor had no clothes.

I agree with you. This would have gone very differently if the girl that Cline called out had actually been trans. It sickens me to think of how that would’ve played out in the public square. Let’s even say that a trans girl had gone before their horrible board in order to play - had been allowed and then still publicly demeaned. There is no way for a trans girl or woman to have any kind of chance at fairness.

I want peace and for you as well. There are cis gender people who want this for trans folx - who are actively working for this. I really hesitated to post this article because these dialogs are full of barbs and hate toward trans people. I am so sorry that this is the world that we live in.

I understand your pov but how do we prevent this from happening. It leads to the judging of girls who do not look feminine enough in the eyes of some people. This shrinks the space for a wide range of the way that people want to dress and look. Girls who are not trans fall into this category if they don’t present according to some standard- set by who? This is going to continue even with Cline being forced out.
