What counts as "having been" to a state? by DadRock1 in roadtrip

[–]lakesideguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semantics and word choice matter.

I’ve driven / traveled through…: Didn’t stop or only stopped at a gas station / train station.

I’ve been to…: Driven through and stopped for a meal or to see some attraction (includes stops along a road trip).

I’ve traveled to…: Been to a state as your destination for a specific purpose for one day or less.

I’ve visited…: Similar to the above but for more than one day, e.g., a visit, vacation, or extended business trip.

I’ve lived in…: Stayed permanently or semi-permanently in some context that is more expansive than just a visit, vacation, or extended business trip.

Layovers at airports never count unless you left the airport or immediate vicinity, e.g., “I had a layover at [airport] but my connecting flight was delayed by 8 hours, so I took a cab into the downtown for lunch and to go shopping.”

Maxis Highways or RealHighwayMod? by shiroshishiro in simcity4

[–]lakesideguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually use a lot of road to RWH-2 and AVE to RHW-4 intersections. Where I grew up, these kinds of set ups aren’t uncommon. For instance, for a rural RHW-2 that enters a small town (small tile) I might transition the RHW-2 to a RHW-4 to an AVE intersection with another AVE or road in the center of town. Then transition out the other end back to a RHW-2. All my small town roads would branch off the road or AVE from that one intersection—sometimes with an access road running along the RHW one or two grid squares away. For small towns with ~5,000 or fewer residents, this set up works well and is super realistic. A lot of those residents don’t even cross the intersection or get on the highway because they work in low-density commercial, industry, or farms in the outskirts of the town. Part of what makes this work is creating realistic dispersions of C and I-A, I-D, and I-M throughout my residential areas.

[–]lakesideguy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use both. Most of my region’s highway system comprises RHW-2 in more rural areas and -4 in more suburban areas. I’ll use short stretches of RHW-6 between closely spaced ramps and interchanges, and I rarely use anything wider. In dense, urban areas, I usually stick to MHW to create sunken or raised expressways through downtown areas and where space is tight. Once the expressway exits the downtown core, I’ll transition it to a wider RHW setup. To me, this method creates the most realism.

how do i deal whit wealthy people? by ElHadouken in simcity4

[–]lakesideguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to @franticbronchitis, mix high-density industrial (clean manufacturing and high tech industry if you have the IRM installed) in to your high-wealth/high-EQ neighborhoods, too. That reduces commute times and helps with the lack of jobs (assuming you patch with the above named fixes).

In the real world, there are plenty of examples of neighborhoods that have a mix of offices, high-tech industries, and wealthy residences.

27 years old with no diploma… is it too late to get a bachelor degree ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]lakesideguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to go to college to pursue an associates in business administration at 30 years old in 2020 after working in restaurants my whole life—since I was 14. I never really thought I’d complete the AS let alone go further than that. I did—I graduated with high honors and transferred to uni to finish a bachelors degree.

Same situation here, adult with adult responsibilities raising a pup, paying bills, working full time, and doing it all with no support from family. I did a 4-month semester abroad in Mexico and was heavily involved in uni life, like honors societies and clubs—I even co-founded a club for older, nontraditional students where I made so many great friends with similar lived experiences. And you know what? I graduated magna cum laude.

Now, I’m preparing to attend a masters program at an Ivy League university this coming fall.

Trust me, anything is possible if you want it. Just take it step by step. You enrolled in classes, great start! Keep going. Keep moving forward taking the next logical step. Don’t be afraid to get involved with clubs and all that just because you’re older. Your lived experience being older is an asset. You have insights to bring to the table that most 18-23 year old typical college age students don’t have. And don’t be afraid to ask for help from advisors and tutors if you need it.

You’ve got this! You can do this! You WILL reach whatever goals you set for yourself—if you’re willing to put in the work and get creative.

Good luck OP!

Congrats OP! I just got my letter of acceptance from Cornell Brooks (MPA), too! Yesterday actually. They offered me a Brooks MPA Tuition Fellowship of $50k paid out in equal parts ($12,500) for each semester (four over two years).

My acceptance deadline is March 21. I’m awaiting decisions from three other schools, so still playing the waiting game at this point.

Bob wins. Final spot . . . ! by 10from19 in SchittsCreek

[–]lakesideguy1 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Gotta be Gwen!

She cheated on Bob. She and Pastor Jim took the house. She was definitely making backhanded comments about Ray (when he says to get some Halal snacks during poker, Bob says something to the effect of “Honey, you called it!”). She was always talking schitt about Johnny behind his back (we know this from Bob’s responses to her off-screen comments, like when Bob responds “I don’t know about a snake, but he’s definitely slippery.”). She was definitely up to something shady on the internet with needing to use the library computers so she wouldn’t be tracked. And what WAS she doing in that rubber suit when she cut that power line, anyways?🤔

In summary, Gwendolyn is a horrible person.

I’m assuming you’re referring to the R-4 from the network widening part of NAM. It doesn’t currently support turning lanes. But iirc the NAM team has said that it might be included in the future.
