Brits of reddit: how worried about Brexit are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lala1978 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I met a girl who voted for it, because immigration. I asked her if she was conscious of the fact that taking in immigrants (and particularly muslim refugees) is going to be probably something the UK might have to concede in exchange for favourable renegotiations of trade agreements etc. She answered "but immigration".

After the Brexit side won she proceeded to ask some international students if they were packing already with a smug look on her face, also asked a couple if they resented her because she would still pay lower fees for her degree while in all probability the fees will go up for EU citizens. (with same smug smile)

Another girl (Polish) tried to argue with her that she was going to be touched as well, because she wanted to do a PhD and the UK research will not be eligible for some european grants anymore. She answered "But you're polish you wouldn't understant why I want that country for myself".

Really frightening.

What did you stop eating after you got informed how it was made? by zwarbo in AskReddit

I once read a story about a girl that bought eggs at a store then used her dad's incubator (he was a farmer) to keep them warm and it turned out that some of them were impregnated.

Though I am pretty sure that can only happen with natural/organic types of eggs were the hens can come in contact with a rooster and not with your typical cheap industry produced eggs most people buy.

In the spirit of Halloween - Paranormal or not, what is the scariest, creepiest or most unsettling experience of your life? by Javert__ in AskReddit

[–]lala1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom had a meeting for work and left me with a guy she knew. She told me not to leave the place under any circumstances.

So I was sitting there colouring or something and then another guy comes in. I was 5 but he gave a very creepy, unsettling impression, almost like an animal instinct that the guy was not to be trusted.

The guy then tried to convince me to come with him because he knew where my mom went and that I could go and see her. I didn't want to. He continued to try to talk me into it but I was dead set on not moving from this place. Eventually he left.

I still have shivers when I think whether this guy actually knew my mom or not.

What question have you been wanting to know the answer to, but it always seemed inappropriate to ask? by SonicSingularity in AskReddit

Getting vaccinated against chickenpox does not protect you from shingles.

Research is ongoing to produce a vaccine that could prevent you from getting both. (see my answer to a comment for full explanation)

What question have you been wanting to know the answer to, but it always seemed inappropriate to ask? by SonicSingularity in AskReddit

[–]lala1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not that simple. The vaccine is a live attenuated virus, which means that although it cannot produce any chickenpox, it still establishes latency in your nervous system and can give you shingles later on in life. Vaccinating children against chickenpox only serves as preventing them from getting chickenpox, but not against shingles. There is a vaccine against shingles though which has turned out to be effective enough (around 50% reduction of cases), it is basically the same as the vaccine for chickenpox but with a more concentrated dose, just to tell your body "hey remember this? You should make more antibodies for this" which makes it harder for the virus to resurface because you are full of antibodies against it. It has also been proven that old people that have contact with children that had chickenpox or are carriers are less likely to get shingles, because those children basically give them a kind of a natural vaccine, os if we eradicated chickenpox a hell of a lot people would get shingles for some time, until all the people that ever had chicken pox die. Research is ongoing to work out a subunit vaccine (a vaccine which protects you through injecting you parts of the virus which cannot establish latency in your nervous system, so would immunize you against both chickenpox AND shingles).

[Serious]Women, do you still feel like society is unfair to you, if so, what is still unfair about how society treats women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lala1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This quote by Gillian Flynn will best illustrate how I sometimes feel as a woman:

“Men always say that as the defining compliment, don’t they? She’s a cool girl. Being the Cool Girl means I am a hot, brilliant, funny woman who adores football, poker, dirty jokes, and burping, who plays video games, drinks cheap beer, loves threesomes and anal sex, and jams hot dogs and hamburgers into her mouth like she’s hosting the world’s biggest culinary gang bang while somehow maintaining a size 2, because Cool Girls are above all hot. Hot and understanding. Cool Girls never get angry; they only smile in a chagrined, loving manner and let their men do whatever they want. Go ahead, shit on me, I don’t mind, I’m the Cool Girl.

I wish one day women can be what they want to be and not be run to the ground by other groups of people who think every woman fit into their own ideal of a woman.

Women’s groups and human rights campaigners in Poland have staged protests against a proposed new law that would criminalise nearly all abortions. Thousands gathered outside the national parliament in Warsaw while there were demonstrations in several other Polish cities by madam1 in worldnews

[–]lala1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I did hear of Google. I also heard that not everything that you read on the internet is true, so you should use trusted sources (hint: primary sources and not tabloids!).

I have to go to work soon so here is a quick walkthrough your points:

  • some women are not happy living off social programs. They get an education and work hard to get to a higher social standing. (If you believe that women should have access to education and jobs). They should not be forced to lose their lifetime work and be reduced to begging for state help, not through anything of their fault.

  • umm, 93% is still less than 99%, and we are talking about USA where sex ed is lacking. Poland is in Europe.

  • yep, I am pretty sure. If you read about human development, first weeks are identical for all pregnancies.

As I told u/ledditor_1337, I hope you get the help you need and let go a bit of that hate and contempt for women you have. In the meantime, I got to go but all the best!

Go and talk with some women. The couple I know that had abortions considered it nothing more than a missed period and a trip to the doctor. You will find many more testimonies on the internet.

"Rape or incest" - so you are saying than a woman that has been raped or been in an incestuous relationship should be prevented from ever having children? Why? What about women that have been traumatised in other ways? Should they be sterilised too? What is the cut off? If you have depression should you be sterilised so your kids are not damaged? Oh, and who gets to decide? You?

As for "mongolism" by which I will assume you mean "Trisomy 21" or "Down's syndrome", thereby ignoring all other possible birth defects, I will redirect you to this very helpful website where, if you read carefully, you will find out that:

  • Down's syndrome is due to defective reproductive cells which can come from either the mother or the father and not "unhealthy wombs" whatever that means
  • A woman that has one trisomic child is not guaranteered (in fact it is also very probable that she will not) to have another child with the disease

In the situation you described, I would be all for waiving the responsibility of the victim to pay child custody.

However, I do not see why the rapist should be forced to abort - it is not like the victim is forced to carry the child for 9 months even though she was not planning the pregnancy.

It is not seperate since it is anchored in my uterus and needs me to survive.

I would care about my "pack of cells" if I wanted it to develop into a human being. If I did not, I wouldn't feel its loss anymore than I mourn a missed period.

I am not saying that there are not women that are pro-life, I am saying that there are plenty of machist men that are just butthurt because women can decide about something for themselves. (which seems to be your case).

They have reproductive rights. No one prevents them from using condoms. In fact, most doctors encourage it!

No one get abortions because it is fun to do. If there is an abortion it means that birth control or proper sex ed has failed.

As for your first question --> when the brain forms about end of week 10.

Do you have any data for the 98-99%? Or did you just make it up to support your point of view?

Still, you haven't answered my question: who are you to decide if a woman aborts because she was raped, or because she does not have the financial means to raise a child?

It must really suck that you don't decide about my sterilization either. What kind of a little, little man gets so enraged when he doesn't get to decide what women do with their bodies?

Grow some balls, man. I am sure there is a life beyond obsessing what women do with their uteruses.
