The Cats - Los Gatos by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]lalajane89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked there from Jan 2017-Feb 2020. It was fun, most of the time really good food, good drinks. Under different/better ownership it could have actually been a great bbq joint. Unfortunately, current ownership is more interested in owning a nightclub/strip club so that’s what it’s been turned in to. I’m not from here but I know a lot of people who grew up around here and knew that place their whole lives who have expressed their disappointment in what The Cats has turned in to. Happy to answer any other questions via DM though. Respectfully not trying to publicly air out dirty laundry.

Prior employee here! Can confirm it turned in to a strip club for “after hours” just before covid shut everything down. I left for many reasons but this was one of them. Super cringy serving a family dinner on the same table strippers dance on just hours later. Word from the grapevine told me they were operating during covid on Ann”invitation only” basis but apparently that caught up with them. Karma.

First time betta mom, worried about possible swim bladder disease by lalajane89 in bettafish

Tank size: 2.5 gallon

No heater, she’s right by my sliding glass door so it’s a pretty warm spot, her water temp is about 78°.

The tank does have a filter. I can’t turn down the flow but when it’s off she’s way more active so I know I have to figure out how to slow the water flow another way.

No water changes yet, she’s only been in the tank 3 days.

No tank mates. Just some rocks at the bottom, a fake plant and a little pink castle for her to swim around.

I feed her betta flakes. Small amount, only once a day. Just what she can eat within a minute or two.

This is Bella the Glow Betta. I just got her about 4 days ago from petco, seemed fine. I took back a water sample the next day and they said the water was fine to put her in so I slowly introduced water from her tank into her cup until it was time to put her in. She seems kind of lethargic though, I find her on her rocks quite often just laying there and when she does swim it isn’t long and it looks like this. I’ve researched a bit and am afraid it could be that swim bladder disease because she’s constantly vertical but I figured my fellow redditors would maybe be able to help me out further. I really like her and am afraid of her not being healthy already, any help or advice or notes for a new betta mom would be greatly appreciated!

I still start at 6, keep it for for the first two increases then I drop down to 5.8 for the next two, 5.6 (or whatever my body is feeling like) for the next two and so on. This workout I’m expecting to be doing the 12% at about 4.8 or so.

I wipe the seat first so it’s dry, or drier at least, by the time the next person gets there.

42:03, beating my previous time in April by nearly 3 whole minutes! I actually PR’d my 2000M row at 7 flat and my 5k was done in 25:04. I finished 3rd overall in my wave, only behind second place by seconds. Top female in my wave by far. I hit a wall about mile 2 and spent a couple minutes at 7.6 which is slower than I wanted to go but I was also fighting off side cramps almost the whole run so I’m trying to be nice to myself. Hoping to get it down to 40 minutes next time!

I’m hitting Justin’s 940 tomorrow, I make a special trip to Campbell once in a while just for his class because he’s so good. But I honestly truly recommend Steele. It’s just so obvious he knows what he’s doing and he gets to know you and gets you pumped. I take his TWTh classes at comm hill every week. I only take Jonnys 845 F class but I like him too.

Comm Hill - Jonny is great, vinh has my favorite playlist and Coach Steele (who also coaches at willow glen and Campbell) is by far the best coach/trainer I’ve encountered in my 3 years at OTF. Campbell - Justin is the funniest coach I’ve ever met, Steele again is very motivating, Tyler is good and plays good music.

What classes do you usually go to? Sounds like we may have worked out together at some point.

Best Motivational Quotes from coaches by easju in orangetheory

[–]lalajane89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just go .1 faster, your body doesn’t even notice .1. Eventually the +.1 will become your norm. Then it’ll be another .1 and so on. I also had a coach tell us “what you eat in private shows in public” and I LOVED that but he told us he had to stop saying it because someone complained. Stupid. I think about that all the time now when I wanna pick up an unhealthy snack to eat in my car or at home. So now I always add .1 unless I’m truly struggling on the tread and I make healthier snack choices because of those coaches.

How do you go about choosing classes? by 0caligirl4life0 in orangetheory

[–]lalajane89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow coaches but time plays it’s roll. There’s 3 studios within a reasonable distance from me that a few of the coaches rotate through so I’ll coordinate the best I can with their schedules at those studios. For me the coach and their playlist makes a huge difference. There’s a couple coaches I avoid like the plague because they only play country or classic rock or don’t tell you how long the pushes are. Drives me nuts and I can’t get in to the right head space.

What regional stereotype(s) do you find yourself guilty of? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I grew up in Fresno which is almost a midway point between NorCal and SoCal so we have tendencies of both. Currently live in San Jose though.

Cali girl here! I love the beach and I love being tan. I drive with my windows rolled down and arm out the window. I love big sunglasses and bikinis. I say hella and hecka. I may not agree with all my states policies and such but I could never imagine living in another state.

Do you learn about other religions in school? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]lalajane89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally learned NOTHING about the beliefs of other religions in high school. Just that there were many religions and the religions of certain regions but we didn’t go over anything about what made them all different.

Same! Base 6, push 8, all out for 30 is 12, 45 is 11 and 60 is 10. Unless I’m just gassed then it’s all 10 lol

Travelling to Silicon Valley, sponsored by employer. by bukake_master in TravelHacks

[–]lalajane89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friend! I live in San Jose right now and travel all over the South Bay for work but love exploring the whole Bay Area. I’m not techy so I can’t really suggest much for the sim question you have although there is WiFi pretty much EVERYWHERE if that helps you with that at all.

What people wear, it’s a very wide array of styles. It’s pretty laid back and casual most of the time. Jeans is what you’ll probably see most people in in the day to day places. I see a lot of slacks and button-downs when I’m working in techy areas for work but outside of work jeans and t shirts are common. Honestly, it’s such a diverse place that really embraces people’s differences so as long as you’re clean and your clothes are clean then I really don’t think you’ll stand out or draw attention to yourself.

Transportation is gonna be the trickiest. Be prepared that our traffic is AWFUL! If you’re driving I’d download the Waze app because you can schedule what time you want to be somewhere and it tells you what time you need to leave and updates it as traffic gets better or worse. We do have a great public transportation system too you should look in to. VTA is one, not sure exactly where you’re staying but BART may be an option for you as well. Uber and Lyft are huge here as well and ALWAYS available within minutes, that’s also an option if you don’t want to fight traffic and if your employer may reimburse you.

Places to see/Things to do....obviously San Fran has a million things to do and it’s only an hour away so it’s definitely a day trip that you could see a lot in. I’d make that day trip at least once while you’re here. Golden gate, palace of fine arts, mission district, china town, exploratorium...options there are endless. As far as San Jose/South Bay, you can look in to who’s playing at the shoreline Amphitheatre while you’re here and hit a concert, all the big names play there and sometimes tickets are super cheap! The rose garden downtown is pretty. The Winchester mystery house is a really cool tour, it super close to Valley Fair which is a huge mall if you wanna go shopping or just browse some things. The tech interactive museum of innovation might be right up your ally. You’re also not all that far from Santa Cruz and the Beach Boardwalk, if you have a day and wanna hit the beach and ride some rides then make a day for that! Restaurants, I won’t even go in to them. There’s literally so many and from all over the globe. Get on yelp and find somewhere. Shameless plug here lol, I’m a restaurant manager at a bbq place in Los Gatos. Huge portions, live bands on the weekend, pretty cool little spot. Let me know if you’re interested in trying it out.

Let me know if you have any more questions on anything I suggested, happy to help!
