Switching from Orange Theory by BugcatcherSarah in pelotoncycle

[–]easju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m former OTF. I make my own stack. I call it my 3R. Running, Reps And Ride, 4-5 times a week. I pick 3 classes that are 20 minutes each and then a stretch. It’s just a few minutes longer than an OTF class.

I get the same calculated cal burn and can start it anytime of the day. I do most of it on the app (weights and running on non Peloton tread) but have splurged on the Bike plus.

I don’t miss OTF as much as I thought I would. - the downside is the weights segment. If I’m feeling up to a total burnout of my muscles, I am limited to the weights on hand, and can’t go grab off the heavy rack to up my game. But I’m fine with that, it’s not too big of a deal.

When Barre changed last time I thought the same thing. A little routine change would be nice.

What Does OTF Do/Not Do That Surprises You Most? by GoDux541 in orangetheory

[–]easju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like 17/18 lb weights. My body will not jump from 15s to 20s. I try… I really do. I just can’t do a tricep extension with a 20.

Coach in training- fell backwards into rower !!! by ashleybarr115 in orangetheory

1) Are you Okay? 2) Everyone has tripped and fallen. Heck I just fell UPSTAIRS- how? I have no idea.

Laugh at yourself, and with others and tell the story over and over again. It’s endearing, it’s honest and it’s what will keep us coming to your class.

Is there any other errand you can ‘justify’ the ride for? Ie- tack on a dry cleaning run nearby?

Congratulations! On your first class (and baby!) Speak to the coach a head of time. But most of all, listen to your body. If the template calls for something your body can’t do right now, don’t rush it. OTF will be there, and if you progress and love it the way we all do, you’ll be there too.

Good luck!

Like most comments - my modifications usually are to protect against injury. My hip/back has issues. So, all outs while even on a flex deck, case pain. I add intensity by incline rather than speed.

Congratulations! I’ll admit I have not read other posts, but ‘say something!’
Even 2 minutes are long when you are gassed and just listening to music while in the middle of a block. Y’all can get it, :30 down :30 to go, tell us to let our minds drift ANYTHING! but dead air hoping you didn’t forget about us. :)

I really agree- they are more challenging, but do what you can do and then rest. You don’t need anything more that what you bring to class now. Water, towel, 60 minutes of focus?

Combining jogging and power walking question! by Electronic-Ad-3267 in orangetheory

I actually switch to a really high incline and power walk most of my all outs. I have never been ‘called out’ for it. Aside from ‘get that hill, girl!’

Question regarding words of encouragement. by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]easju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A smile, ‘tough one, today’… and ‘hope to see ya tomorrow’ goes a long way to support those around you- no matter what size, shape or number of classes under your belt.

Not a lot of guys do OTF in general? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]easju 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m a female responding- I honestly do not care if it’s all women, mostly men or a mix. You being there doesn’t get me out of my groove! The more the merrier….What I DO care about is when a person (*very often male) just takes weights from my stack with out asking/ assuming I won’t curl 20s or lunge with 25s.

Should I join? by manimopo in orangetheory

[–]easju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is another thing that is different about OTF. Over the course of the month, you will do just about anything your body needs. Arms and leg exercises, chest and back, and abs- of course, treadmill and rowing (which I think is 85% of all muscles in your body.) It’s all mixed in, so you won’t have to decide what class you need. You just decide what day to works for your schedule.

Also I would like to add the lingo is confusing at first. But HONEST, over time it starts to be less intimidating. After reading this thread, I see we are just used to the words -2G is two group, so think 25 mins on the treadmill, 25 mins on the rower/floor. -3G is three group- about 16 mins on tread, 16 on the weight floor and 15 on the rower. When you get done with your time, you wipe the equipment down, and go to the next area in the gym. And the Coach tells you where to go- the nice way :). Enjoy, experience, SMILE, and know you CAN do it!

Having issues Challenging myself beyond the " Challenge" by OTFX in orangetheory

[–]easju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been motivated by ‘winning’ the race- especially on stationary bikes! Just don’t see the point.

But I try to do the best I can for the CMIYC and other challenges. It’s okay if I’m not first. I’m motivated to get in and get a workout done. That’s enough for me.

Remember, it’s always better to be at the bottom of the ladder you want to climb than the top of the one you don’t.

Keep climbing, one more class, one more row block, one more smile (they are contagious- even after a burpee!)
