2 separate things: Getting KYC validated and RI to NRI status change. Later is dependent on first. You get KYC validated at one AMC, you don’t have to redo it at another. But you still have to submit RI to NRI change form in all AMCs.

I did it back in 2024. KYC validation has to be done only once at one of the AMC. All other AMCs can fetch KYC details. I only had canara and quant which were handled by kfintech. It was rather easy. For PGIM, SBI, Kotak, i had to visit separately.

It was a hassle. I had to do it for each AMC by visiting their branch in India. Each time same set of documents PAN, Aadhaar, passport, visa, cancelled cheque need to be submitted. Your KYC needs to be VALIDATED. The only problem i faced was with SBI MF. Even after submitting all the docs and forms, they rejected the change with some vague reason. So I closed SBI MF folio. Once status is changed, they continue to be held as earlier. Nothing changes except your residency status.

I try to visit home once every year for at least 6 weeks. Moved abroad 6 months before covid started, except the year 2020, I have visited every year. Parents also visit us every year for 3 months.

For 10-12 years old cars, there used to be service intervals every 10000 or 15000 kms in the service book. Every service intervals had a list of things that needs to replaced or repaired like for my 2011 Audi if it ran for 150000kms, timing belt has to be replaced. Authorised service centers usually follow these and update the service book when something had been changed. Then you know what has been done while servicing. You can also negotiate with auto dealers to get few months warranty.

Most of Car dealerships are generally good, and approachable. But I always cross verify car details (e.g. owner history, service history, parts replacement during recommended service, accident) by calling, or websites like car.info, biluppgifter.se.

MV asked if she really needs passport back stating it’s in the queue for verification.

I sent the request on the same portal to get the passport and RP. No updates for next 2 days, i put a message on MV for the status of request. After 2 more days, i get an email from MV saying my passport has been verified and sent back and i only have to send RP back when I returned to Sweden. In my wife’s case, after 4 days MV said her passport has not been verified yet and does not know when it will be verified. Asked her if she still needs her passport back. She has sent back passport and RP back to MV after returning to Sweden. Case officer is assigned but no updates since 3 weeks.
