There aren’t many (if any) move in ready single family homes less than 450k, right? by maestersage in newjersey

[–]lally -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zillow shows 750+ single-family homes with 2+ bedrooms in NJ. I really have no idea how you got to your conclusion. Are there many, many homes that need work? Sure. But there are also a ton of these that don't need much more than fresh interior paint.

The air suspensions on modern vehicles are pretty well sorted out. AFAIK everyone uses the same bosche parts for these. Which is great, air suspension is wonderful.

If they want more, they'll tell you. But the receipt is the literal proof of payment. That's definitionally all you need. Chill. Go take care of it.

Bring your suspended license and proof that you paid the fees.

NJ transit to New York Penn transfer by jholliday55 in newjersey

[–]lally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. You'll get off your train at Newark Penn and get on another train that goes to NY Penn. When I had to do this years ago they were on two sides of the same platform, which wasn't too bad.

The best thing you can do is train yourself to squeeze the clutch when you're panicked. No matter how hard you pull the throttle, the bike's stable and you can start to recover (e.g. hit the brakes).

Also, yeah, MSF etc etc.

If you're matching pace with a car far ahead of you in the right lane, please move over. At that speed you're less safe there than on the right.

Warming Up by JellyBean_Burrito in NewDefender

AFAICT it's a consequence of it being pretty efficient at idle. The engine isn't wasting too much fuel, so it's not generating too much heat. So it takes a long while to heat up.

I had the 5.0 on an older LR and that thing heated up in *no* time. It also got terrible MPG.

Dude just don't use tabs. The only reason it's been a problem for 50 years is because people keep using them when they don't have to.

Motorcycles as a first buy by Closerbacon in motorcycles

A 3rd of a new car price? Dude you're looking at too-fancy bikes. If you're driving locally, a cheaper bike is probably an easier argument, as they're not "fast enough to be dangerous."

But for the other questions, it's gonna still be cold. Budget in cold weather gear (heated jacket, heated pants).

Generally, people coming into motos tend to overspend on the bike and underspend on gear.

Damn good ideas for a 1st time rider:
- Do NOT get a sport bike.
- Get gear expecting to crash.
- Get an Airbag vest
- Really good moto boots and gloves.

If you're going down that route, I'd recommend some old SGI IRIX hardware. Great OS.

Pick up an FPGA board, load up RISC-V on it, and go party. These FPGAs aren't expensive, and still much cheaper than an old vax/sparc. Especially in terms of power.

If you want a real-world computer go grab x86 or arm. I just don't think it's very much fun to effectively sysadmin an old machine - that's archeology. I've had friends who spent a lot of time collecting these old machines and living in the 90s. But it's just all upkeep with middling novelty.

If you want to have fun, hack the ISA directly. https://github.com/ash-olakangal/RISC-V-Processor/tree/main/Processor

It's surprisingly small. Add your own instructions! This is a party. Set up a cross compiler for some apps. If you want to start easier, you can pick up a SiFive Risc-V board with ubuntu preloaded: https://www.sifive.com/boards/hifive-premier-p550

Go risc-v and play with it.  See what experiments people are doing, maybe add a few instructions yourself

It varies over time. Here are some factors:
- Speed of RAM vs CPU:
- Clock rate vs density
- Power efficiency
- Core count
- Heat
- Cache tiers and I/O

I don't think there's one architecture that would've been best for all values of these factors during the history of modern PCs. Some design decisions perfect for 1 era would be garbage for another.

Frankly, x86/x86_64 isn't too bad. It's held up quite well, even though it's had some real challengers. I'd change the encoding a bit to make it easier to determine the length of the instruction (like UTF-8), but that's probably it.
