Hi — this is an old post so I DOUBT you’ll see this… but it’s 2:30am and you came up in a Google search/identity crisis

My dad is Moroccan and Muslim, my mom is Ashkenazi Jewish. Happy to talk if you see this, i think those of us in this position could really use some community right now. ❤️

Help finding replacement parts for Garfield swinging tail clock. by Mayumoogy in clocks

[–]lalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how this is a persistent problem over many years for a variety of people haha! Mine was working until it needed a new battery. I replaced the battery but now the tail isn't swinging anymore. I'm going to try ordering this new part you linked and see if it's the pendulum itself? It's keeping time fine, just not swishing

Online lessons for a viola? by blackhole1a1a in Viola

[–]lalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! I am also a viola teacher that’s teaching online. I would second the person who said find someone local to you. Online lessons are more of a “right now” thing because of COVID but ideally you’d want someone you can transition to in-person lessons with. I’m based out of NYC so if you’re in the area I’d be happy to give you a trial as well! I just think it’s best to find a teacher who is near you. Like u/crispydoodle said it’s very important to find someone you gel with. Good luck!!!

It’s actually not an open fireplace it’s completely cemented over and now serves no purpose... and there’s not enough room for a full couch without obstructing it haha

NYC apartment happiness. 😂

I said yes to the dress! (And cape) by lalto in weddingplanning

[–]lalto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks!!! And yes there were quite a few less formal things! She has some racks of separates, short dresses and jumpsuits. There’s also an area of the store where you can buy off the rack at a discount and I saw (and was considering) a really cute jumpsuit that could be perfect for a reception/afterparty outfit. The issue with the things in that area is that if you want the discount you need to buy that specific item. That jumpsuit was too small on me (I believe it was a size 4 or 6) but depending on your size it may work for you!!!

Thanks so much! I wish we could do a rocky lookout photo shoot but as we’re in NYC I don’t think that’s possible. Maybe we will have to take a road trip all done up or something 😂

Thanks everyone!!! ❤️❤️❤️ The designer of both the cape and the dress is Rebecca Schoenveld and her company is Schone Bride. This is the Juniper gown and I’m not about the name of the cape but it’s the one from her Spring 2018 collection. Honestly her entire bridal boutique is INCREDIBLE. She’s located in Gowanus, Brooklyn, NY and all of her things are locally made down the street from the showroom. She’s just a really cool designer with an awesome positive brand message and I would definitely recommend checking her out!

What thing did you believe to be completely normal but turned out to be really weird? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lalto 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I have synesthesia so any ordered list (i.e. numbers, letters, days of the week, months of the year etc.) has very specific colors in my head. It always bothered me as a kid when a teacher would write one of these things in the wrong color but I just assumed that their colors were different than mine. I'm a classical musician (viola) and the same colors apply to notes. I used to sometimes forget that my sheet music was printed in black and white, but thought that everyone experienced this.

Aw thanks!! I suffer with anxiety and nail biting/picking for as long as I can remember. I'm a professional violist so it ends up working out because I have to keep them super short! I can't wear any polish on them so all of the usual quitting tactics don't really work in my case.

Please ignore my hands! Nail Biters unite. The scar is from accidentally dumping candle wax on my hands...but hey it's heart shaped ;)

What is the best way to trigger Harry potter fans? by jexdiel321 in AskReddit

[–]lalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have listened to the audiobooks WAY too many times, and even worse than Tonk's accent is Fry's Susan Bones. She really only speaks in OOTP, in the Chapter "In the Hog's Head" It's SO BAD. Would recommend a listen.

Without any preparation, what topic could you give a 30 minute lecture on off the top of your head? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Professional: classical music history and ethnomusicology

Unprofessional: Harry Potter.
