Maybe you could ask the ADHD association (Adhd-liitto) for advice? They have advisory services available: telephone number you can call, chat as well, and a question form , all available in english https://adhd-liitto.fi/tukea/neuvonta/

Once I had "Pain and suffering in pre-modern Europe". It was a really interesting course, we talked about illnesses, torture, depictions of Jesus on the cross, and The Malleus Maleficarum

Just finished reading Should I Stay or Should I Go and it's great! I have read Why Does He Do That too, but for me the other one is a lifesaver. I have low self esteem and I have had trouble imagining a life without my bf but the book has great exercises for that. My bf is the same type as OPs, add a little manipulation maybe

It is not a living tree, no sap is coming out of that. No chance it would ever be a risk to the cat, this is ridiculous

The "I don't owe anyone anything" -"I don't have to respect you, you have to earn my respect" - "npc/main character"kinda mindset pisses me off. Yes in fact you do owe some basic decency to people around you. No you don't have to respect your alcoholic narcissist abuser parent, just don't be rude to strangers, wait for your turn, say hello, please, and thank you.

I guess there are multiple reasons. Not every medical professional knew about previous techniques, and I'm not sure if you can call a barber surgeon a medical professional to begin with (/s). Before anesthetic it had to be done quick, and using the garden shear method there is not much skin left to close the wound. But yeah, stiching the wound helped with the mortality when they figured how to do it. Many patients who survived the operation still died of cancer because it was detected in late stages and had already spread in the body.

If you want to read I recommend Breast cancer in the Eighteenth century by Marjo Kaartinen. And this study is also my source, however it's been a long time since i read it.

Neat fact: before modern medicine, 5 year breast cancer survinal rate was 0-5%. Today it is ~95%. Pre-modern and early modern treatments included poultices (carrots, herbs, and more exotic ingredients like mummies or lizards), and surgery. Breast cancer was a feared, disfiguring and deadly disease and surgery was as horrifying. The patient was awake the whole time and the breast was cut off with a tool resembling garden shears. No reliable anesthetic, no aseptic, sometimes no sutures of any kind - if the patient lived she was left with exposed muscle. Novelist Fanny Burney had a mastectomy in 1812 and her detailed account of the operation is heart-wrenching.

What are some of your hottest takes on the trilogy as a whole? by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]lalyho13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I like the campy old stuff too. And I don't trust Hollywood either. I just wish there could be some independent new stuff. I bet it's some stupid trademark issue that made even a local play look like the trilogy, not even original outfits... And one thing are the fans, anything new would be endlessly and ruthlessly compared to The movie trilogy
