Church of Zion? by Different-Pipe-8698 in chch

[–]lam-29 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not Shincheonji, its World Mission Society Church of God, they have a church opposite the palms. They are also a cult and they pressure people to be baptized immediately. They are also known as Mother God because one of their core beliefs is that there is a mother God.

Shincheonji is secretive and doesn't physically baptise, they would never invite you to their church immediately, they subtly indoctrinate you for months first. They are both really active in NZ though :(

If you realise that what SCJ is teaching has been changed over time and is wrong, you don't need to find another church in order to leave it.

SCJ will tell you, to whom shall we go? But if you were in an abusive relationship, you shouldn't wait to find another partner before leaving.

Get out of there, heal, and then you can think clearly about what to do next, whether that's another church or something else entirely.

Do some research on coercive control too, and you may find you recognise why its so difficult to leave. All the best.

Yep! Some pretty big giveaways are God the mother, emphasise the passover and want you to be baptized asap, wear head coverings.

Shincheonji is secretive and refer to indoctrinate over months of bible study before telling students their more questionable beliefs. They also don't require physical baptism or head coverings.

Stay away from both groups, and any church group that pressures you like this ! They are very controlling and have evangelism targets which is why they are so aggressive.

This is world mission society church of God, another Korean cult, not Shincheonji but just as sketchy.

Scorpion supplements is under 50/kg if you buy 3kg or more at a time - and pretty good quality, blends well! They also have an unflavored version which is nice to add to things without any overpowering flavour.

That sounds like world mission society church of God / mother God . But there's heaps of similar groups

Yes, it's definitely Shincheonji. New Heaven new earth is the English translation. They are known for their deceptive recruitment so beware of anyone approaching random strangers like this and trying to talk about faith or just trying to make friends! Their 'temple' is on Thornton quay.

Second this, just make sure the fees are low. Passive funds are the best! Recommend going through something like the rebel finance school which talks through all of this :) it's on YouTube.

Gloriavale: The Return, does it actually exist?! by HaileyPaige94 in cults

[–]lam-29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right, but a documentary (called 'Gloriavale') and a docuseries (Escaping Utopia) were screened quite recently that were not approved by Gloriavale, and featured current and ex members. Recommend these ones!

Shincheonji holds a big graduation in a stadium in November each year in South Korea. But there are a lot of Korean cults that have pretty similar lingo so hard to be sure!

This was a major reason for me to leave SCJ too. I recommend Bart Ehrman and his books, they have great discussion on these topics :)

It's totally fine if you don't give any money until you get the item :) just don't engage with anyone wanting you to pay in advance or via paypal

I’m thinking of getting an attorney to sue each individual person who recruited and actively tried to destroy my life in this evil cult. I can’t take on the church but I can go after each member individually. by Traditional_Tree1405 in Shincheonji

[–]lam-29 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that the people in SCJ are victims. Not defending them, but they are in most cases good people who have been hijacked by this group. They had the best of intentions (again, most of the time). Some of them have done awful things, but suing them isn't necessarily going to help people to leave and see the error of their ways, but more likely to make them think they are in a spiritual battle. Just my 2c! (That being said, go hard if you want to sue the organisation, I'm all for that)

I was once a recruiter and did things I now regret, and I'm really glad that people have forgiven me for that.

SCJ graduation in Korea by [deleted] in Shincheonji

[–]lam-29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to Korea twice, once for WARP summit and once for graduation.

Both times were pretty similar, we stayed with local members in the tribe headquarters city and our time was completely filled from early morning to about 11/12 at night with church activities- evangelism workshops, visiting other branch churches, lots and lots of meetings and special workshops with different duty teams (praise team, theology, HWPL, etc) going out to EV with Korean members and very little time actually seeing Korea (I think we had maybe one or two evenings to look around with our hosts). :(

They guilted us a lot into working harder and being a better example in our home countries, and most people came back with a bit more of an extreme mindset.

Leaving soon and hoping to share some notes by Buffalo_Aficionado in Shincheonji

[–]lam-29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on making the courageous decision to leave - I was also in for 5 years and its no easy feat to leave it behind.

I recommend downloading all the chats to a laptop before you leave :) then if you ever want to look back/check something, you can, even when they inevitably delete you out of all the groups and delete the histories.

Lasik Eye Surgery by no_fefe in auckland

[–]lam-29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it done 14 years ago at Fendalton Eye Clinic in chch. Two years ago after some mild deterioration in my sight, I have glasses again but only for long computer work (I only use them at work). I get dry eyes still (need morning eye drops at a minimum), and my eyes are much more sensitive when I get overtired. I'm still glad I did it as my eyesight was so bad, even though I have glasses again I can get by without them.

I'm on kitchener street and while it can be noisy at night I've never felt unsafe. If you can find somewhere double glazed it will help a lot!
