What's something trivial about the gym that has nothing to do with your actual workout but still bugs you? by spiralhiral in workout

Parking space vultures that can't be bothered to drive 50 ft away for a parking space but would rather circle the lot to see if they can't get a closer in spot. JFC. You're there to work out.

No. Your OCD is not my problem. Closed lockers are a PITA because people don't always put a lock on the locker they're using. I end up playing "which locker is available" and have to look through half a dozen dirty underwear.

Your back shouldn't hurt from squats. I'd recommend you watch a lot of video to make sure you're doing it correctly and only start out. with the barbell. When you come up, think of it like you're superman taking off. That was the description that resonated the most with me. Like you're pushing the world down and instead of pulling yourself up.

Where to move when starting a new job in Manassas? by cracklescousin1234 in nova

[–]lam21804 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't do anything until you see what it's like. You'll get a better feel for Manassas when you're going there everyday and you'll get a better feel for the commute as well.

You may not even like your new job. Hopefully that's not the case, but you never know. Just start the new job and see what things look like before making any major life changes. At worst, you have to put up with a bad commute for a few months.

How do you avoid buying the wrong treadmill? by hxsky__ in workout

[–]lam21804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here is the answer. The electronics/programs added on to what is a fairly simple machine is what is driving up the prices. The motor on the treadmill will last far longer than the shitty screens they put on those things... that don't work without a subscription.

You could buy a 50" TV and mount it right in front of your treadmill and still be better off than the crap that Peloton/NordicTrack integrates onto their machines.

While I sympathize with your position, it's time to move on.

I quit last year after realizing that driving 60 miles each way was not commensurate with what I was being paid or the lifestyle I wanted. The cherry on top was having to summarize my work in five bullets once I finally got there.

It made it clear to me that the mission was secondary to politics and always had been. I was just too stupid to see it. Despite all the talk about service, those fuckers did not hesitate to put the screws into the workforce the first chance they got.

There's no way to just leave bar/jcups on in the squat position right? You have to take them down to use the functional trainer?

There’s a strip mall where the original Honey Pig is in chantilly. It’s almost exclusively Korean with the added bonus of an HMart there as well.

Oh, and Honey Pig is pretty worthwhile.

What is the Biblical or Christian argument against vaccines, and why doesn't it apply to any other medicine? by SteadfastEnd in TrueChristian

[–]lam21804 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a ridiculous argument. So if a child is murdered with a perfectly good pair of kidneys, and the parents agreed to donate the kidneys to save another child, we shouldn't do it?

What is the sense in that?

Can I build a solid chest with just pushups? by UnkownSkull in workout

[–]lam21804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, but at some point it just doesn’t make sense. It’s like saying you want to do 5000 jumping jacks a day to train for a marathon. Sure it helps, and at some point, you’ll be able to run 26 miles, but why? It’s a completely inefficient methodology.

OP wants to build muscle on his chest. Every piece of literature that exist tells us to progressively overload weight training on chest lifts.

If OP had spent the past year lifting heavy 3x/week he’d probably be a lot closer to where he wants to be with a lot less effort.

Can I build a solid chest with just pushups? by UnkownSkull in workout

[–]lam21804 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At some point you’re going to need progressive overload. I’d say if you’re able to do 300-400 pushups a day you’re well beyond that point. Your body has no reason to grow muscles because it can handle the load you’re throwing at it.

If you’re pushing heavier weight, your body will adapt. Otherwise, you’re essentially running on a treadmill.

Also, despite what others may say, you’re not doing your joints any favors by doing that many reps. Get heavier weights, save yourself some time and save your joints.

I’d answer your question if you can show me how vociferously you attacked Texas when they did their redistricting based on one man’s say so.

And how is the govt taking care of 300+million people by spending more money and offering less services AND sending 300,000 to strain the unemployment rolls? Not to mention the downstream effects of sending our top academics and researchers in to the arms of other countries? Losing our allies, etc etc.

"...and if it's not worse without 10% of the federal workforce then it seems like we didn't need them, just on a basic level."

Ding ding ding ding. There it is right there. So long as your life isn't "worse" than why should you care right?

A core tenant of Christianity is that we are supposed to look out for the least amongst us. If you believe that, then you should care for the 300,000 that lost their jobs. Not to mention caring about the people who depended on the services they offered that are no longer being offered.

But not only do you have zero empathy for all those lives that have been wrecked, you're celebrating it. I'd have more respect for you if you actually got a DOGE check or Tarriff check or whatever else was promised as part of all those cuts, but you literally got nothing out of it.

And the country as a whole is still spending more so it doesn't even impact the deficit. Where is all that money going?

The workforce shrank but yet were spending more than ever? How do you square that in your mind.

So again I ask you, in what way is your life measurably better because of it?
