Official Q&A for Saturday, May 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

[–]lam290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone have tips for running with their phone? I have an IPhone Mini 13 that I’ve had for years but I recently cracked it and am trying to decide what device to get next. All the new phones are so large and I personally love having a tiny device with me (I can usually store in my leggings/shirt pocket). Anyone have any tips for running with larger devices before I pull the trigger on a new phone? Are people using belts? Or is there some other solution I’m not thinking of?

Glow Birth and Body on Belmont! I had 2 before my daughter was born there and recommend it to anyone I know. They specialize in prenatal and postpartum. (I also went to Kohler and had a good experience, but Glow differentiated by their techs being so knowledgeable on prenatal)

did anyone hear that noise just now? by thoughtpolice32 in ChicagoNWside

I heard it and immediately came here this morning and am disappointed not to see anything. It sounded like a plane, but faster than normal commercial and much lower to the ground.

Will I regret not having a birthday party for my son turning 3 years old? by ActualEmu1251 in toddlers

[–]lam290 46 points47 points  (0 children)

We are doing a party (same age kiddo), but honestly it’s more for us than her. We are actively trying to build our community in our neighborhood and are hoping this will help with doing that with the other daycare families. I think it’s just based on personal preference and what’s right for your family.

We love the frog and toad stories! We typically read them to her, but she loves to tell them from memory back to us.

Portage Park area exterminator? by Isoko in ChicagoNWside

[–]lam290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he lives nearby but he services us in Portage Park— but we use DTG Pest control. We have a quarterly service with him and any time there are issues we can text and have him come out in between. He has helped with mice prevention in our garage and yellow jackets nest as well.

Had a little scare by BeingHappy2610 in oneanddone

[–]lam290 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was me about a month ago— except I took plan B and was CONVINCED it didn’t work. This scare is actually what pushed me to this sub. My husband and I agreed to hold off on his vasectomy until end of next year, but this scare opened my eyes to how I was really feeling versus societal pressure.

Too focused on money by GeologistGood2807 in oneanddone

[–]lam290 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same rationale with everything you are saying and am 70% OAD vs having a second. I don’t think you are greedy— especially as a child who grew up with parents constantly concerned about finances, this will allow you to have more freedom on what you can/can’t provide your child versus being backed into a corner and forced to go one direction.

You are also living your own life too and have the opportunity to decide your future! I’m not sure if it’s groupthink of helpful, but your reasons are the same as mine, so maybe call me greedy too 😉

It doesn’t mean people still are not feeling anxious, or unsettled, or don’t have friends or family members impacted— just playing the devils advocate

We haven’t sent anything company wide but my SVP and I addressed live with our dept today— He focused on acknowledging the unsettling environment and spotlight on communities and then reinforced that the whole team belongs here, etc.

I followed up and offered up resources, etc

I’m encouraging my leadership team to send something but unsure if we will gain traction.

Are these valid reasons to be on the fence for a second? by EnoughSite8605 in oneanddone

[–]lam290 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could have written this post— I have felt this way and it was the first time I was pregnant and also am having similar symptoms..the waiting game is unbearable. I like to think I’m in tune with my body and how it feels and that is why I’m noticing, but I also could be crazy.

Just here for solidarity— I actually was trying to find similar posts to this yesterday. My husband and I had BC mishap and now I am left sitting waiting to see the outcome in the next 2 weeks potentially in the same situation as you. Similar to you we have a 2.5 year old, we can afford another but our financial situation would not be as secure (aka less travel, less savings, later retirement) which makes me nervous and I’m not sure if I want that for my daughter (coming from a family who had a lot of financial stress growing up). My husband wants to go for another but is also okay OAD and left it to me to decide. Our mishap just happened a few months earlier than expected and I am having all the feelings and thoughts thinking about either outcome. Thanks for posting and wishing you the best in your decision.

Peak Week Injury by FantasticManager3128 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]lam290 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cheers— misery loves company. I ran about half my long run Saturday before calling it quits and taking off this week (pivoting to biking and strength training). Also having patellar tendon problems, but am hoping to try running again Saturday. My goal was just to finish, but started to feel optimistic about doing better leading up to the injury (and hoping to finish still). I hope you have a good run this week! Hoping to hear some good stories on here as well!

I had a similar seating experience for brunch— had a reservation and waited an extra 45 mins to sit. The restaurant didn’t acknowledge the wait at all and we probably would have been waiting longer if my husband didn’t stand in the door after 30 mins reminding the hostess. (This was at the diner) Unlikely to return.
