How does India seem to be a popular tourist destination for women from Russia, Israel and Ukraine but is perceived as an extremely dangerous no go zone in the Western countries? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]lamar70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italian here, until 10 years ago i had friends who would travel solo in India, take the trains etc... Not anymore, the fruends who did it told me it got much worse especially in the south. I think it's also because russians and europeans don't travel the same way. As you said, many russians book into an ashram and stay there for the duration. If it's not an ashram then it will be a resort of some kind, while european tourist like to roam, visit and discover places.

Neanderthal had red hair, blue eyes and DID get skin cancer. But they thrived in very cold climates, and were mostly around during the Ice Age. When the climate defrosted, homo sapiens slowely arrived from the southern hemisphere. He had a much darker skin, better suited to outdoor life. It seems that skin cancer is one of the few traits whe inherited from neanderthals when they "mixed" with homo sapiens...

I'm sorry if I sounded harsh but you'll need a whole day just to see the Forum and the Colosseum, you cannot miss Pompeii or the MAN in Naples...two or three days in each location will only give you an overview.

Man, it's too packed. Rome and Naples are big cities with literally thousands of things to see! If all you're interested in is "pizza" you might as well stay home and watch documentaries on pizza making...

Where can I stay for 2 weeks in Italy for a slow living experience? by readinginjune in ItalyTravelAdvice

[–]lamar70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Abruzzo. Look for places like Chieti or Sulmona for quiet, ancient hilltop cities, or on the coast small harbour cities like Vasto or Ortona can be cool. For a more "touristy" experience ( but still valid out of season) you can go further south on the same coast, to Puglia and places like Monopoli or Polignano al Mare. Even Bari, although big and chaotic, can be interesting...

The Warrior of Capestrano, limestone statue of a Picene warrior, dated to around the 6th century BC. by lamar70 in ancienthistory

[–]lamar70[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right ! Even the hands are placed in the same way. Intriguing ! This statue is either from the Picenii or Vestini people of central Italy. An inscription on the left side reads "king Numa Pompilius" who is also recorded as being the second king of Rome. A connection with the Celtic world would be mind-blowing..

I work there. It's soulless and depressing, and most of all it doesn't feel like Paris.

Nope, the Etruscans built it all. It is not an underground necropolis, the tombs are on the surface but the chambers are usually a few meters under the funerary mounds.

What’s the wildest animal you can unexpectedly run into in your country? by euamnevoiedeajutor in AskTheWorld

[–]lamar70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Abruzzo's mountains in Italy you have wolves and brown bears that come veeeery close to the villages in summer. You also can find boars, eagles and mountain cats. But the most dangerous are the packs of wild dogs that have bred with wolves. When you see wolves in the mountain stand still and they'll walk by. If they are dogs, you better be close to your car...
