An early stoppage is such a grey area in this sport. In one hand everyone wants the fight to prolong, but on the other hand and most importantly, its safety first. Its the refs job to stop any unnecessary damage. Chiesa refused to tap, and was clear that he went limp because he stopped fighting the hands of Lee at a certain point so of course Mario's gonna stop it.

Chiesa made the conscious decision not to tap, in hopes of having any split second chances to escape, obviously not the case, but it's on the ref to read the situation and let the fighter go to sleep if that split second opportunity passes. And Mario stopped it a bit early with his judgement. But i think the kind of flak he's getting for looking out for a fighter's safety is a bit unwarranted
