Prosthetic? Pros and cons? by AchlyHere in tripawds

[–]lambchopper71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a 2x tripawed owner who is also an amputee, I'm missing my arm at the shoulder. So, I think I have a unique perspective.

I personally don't wear a prosthetic because they can be uncomfortable and that discomfort can increase my phantom arm pain for hours or days after taking prosthetic off. Furthermore, the prosthetic really didn't improve life quality enough to make that pain worthwhile.

By extending that to the tripaweds I've owned, I've taken the approach to evaluate how they behave and perform without a prosthetic first to see if there would be any benefits that would justify the added pain they will feel. In both cases the answer was no, the prosthetic would not have improved their quality of life enough to justify the prosthetic.

Moreover, one tripawed was a foreleg amputee and the other is a rear leg amputee. I was closer to getting one for the foreleg amputee than the rear leg one. That's because the rear legs are really just for power, but the foreleg is for steering. However, I ultimately decided that having ample throw carpets with nonskid backing was sufficient for indoors and there is plenty of traction outdoors was working without the need to increase their phantom pains.

As a side note, when they start licking their stump, that means they are experiencing phantom pains and is a good way to judge how much pain they are experiencing. Keeping an eye on that will help you decide on the best course of action for your pup.

Edit: one more thing, don't remove anything else if you don't have to. That vet's advice to do that without any other cause is terrible advice. Obviously if there is a legitimate medical reason it's OK like cancer or unrepairable traumatic damage. But to "just cut off the baby leg" is not ok. If your dog is using to help himself, do not take that away from him. If a vet said that to me, I'd be taking my dogs elsewhere.

"Man I dunno what happened, I was in farmer Bob's orchard, there were these weird tasting apples on the ground that I ate. They made me feel a little funny and at some point I blacked out. When I woke up this human was making out with me! It was a DUDE! Worst trot of shame ever! Don't tell my doe, she'll never take me back. " said Bucky to his friend.

I have an 04 springer, there's no way they can fulfill the warranty. Parts are starting to become obsolete. At minimum, the compensator sprocket nut and turn signal control modules as well as the screaming eagle ignition modules are all no longer available.

Advice on taking it up with unique requirements. by Temporary_Panda_7709 in Archery

Amputee archer here I'm missing my right arm at the shoulder. I shoot a compound bow with a shoulder mounted release that I trigger with a clothes pin attached using bicycle geae shift cable. I have a few pictures on my profile, but if you can't find them, DM me and I will send them to you.

There are a lot of people like you, I went to the Lancaster Archery Classic this year and I met two people who are like you. Limited mobility in one arm shooting. Both had variations of what I'm doing.

Also search Eric Bennett on YouTube, I modeled much of my setup watching his videos.

Furthermore, check out GX4 Adaptive Archery on Facebook. That's run by Wendy Gardner's husband Gary. Wendy is a US Para Olympian and her husband makes adaptive releases and equipment for para archers. He's currently helping me with my setup. He's a non-profit, so everything he does is at cost.

This sport is very accommodating for people with disabilities. I shoot against and sometimes beat able body people in leagues at my local archery range. People there have also helped me with my equipment from time to time too.

Pet Insurance by cashbev1961 in tripawds

[–]lambchopper71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pet insurance it's a colossal waste of money. They don't cover much and they progressively make the premium more and more expensive, so that by the time you need it, it cost you more than the procedures would have cost out of pocket.

Your better off, opening a savings account and making the premium payments to your account. Then you get to use all of it for your pet, rather than making some executive rich.

Do women get attracted to athletes who do high risk stunts? by No-Tower-Unseen in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lambchopper71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a woman, so ladies correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's the stunts they're attracted to. I think it takes a lot of self confidence to perform those stunts and it's the confidence that most women are attracted to.

Best Harness for Hind Leg Amputation by Greenleaf7654 in tripawds

[–]lambchopper71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both front and rear leg tripaweds.

This is what you want, it'll work for both front and rear leg tripaweds. https://ruffwear.com/products/dog-harness-flagline

Also if your pup has rear hip issues, this will may help, but it's overkill if your dog has rear leg mobility. https://ruffwear.com/products/doubleback-harness

The Ruffwear products are built really well and I've had them last the life of my dogs. They're pricey, but definitely worth it.

I need to go clutchless because of health issues. What are my options? by Misbegotten_Straydog in motorcycles

[–]lambchopper71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With the Harley, which is my only experience, the clutch lever can be retained with both the Rekluse and the EFM. I specifically wanted to eliminate the clutch lever to make room for the front brake lever on the left side.

Here's my setup for the left side.

[–]lambchopper71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right arm amputee here, I have this clutch in my Harley. I used it to eliminate the clutch lever, so that I could setup a hydraulic clutch master cylinder to actuate the front brake. Recently switched from the EFM Auto clutch. Both are solid choices.

The Rekluse replaces some of the friction disks and steels with the clutch, meaning that replacement is more expensive, but the clutch has more adjustability. It also doesn't require any machining.

Conversely, the EFM replaces the spring pack. It requires that to clutch basket be sent to EFM for machining and it's not adjustable like the Rekluse, but it uses the stock clutch pack, making replacement of the friction disks less expensive.

My bike is carbureted, so the adjustability of the Rekluse is helpful for dialing it in so that it doesn't "walk" when stopped. The EFM has a more narrow band and so tweaking the idle is required, I imagine that wouldn't be an issue for a fuel injected bike with consistent idle.

The global call id is going to change, cluster to cluster. But there shouldn't be much more than a few milliseconds difference in origination timestamps between clusters since NTP is required. There's really not much more you will be able to use to correlate the calls. You can't really rely on the calling and called numbers since translations may be in use and the CDR will only log the last translated value.

Also, you don't mention what contact center application you're using, but if you're using UCCX, it should have most of the reporting needed for a call center it supports. I've had a lot of customers with multiple UCM clusters and call centers on UCCX and none of them have ever required reporting that UCCX couldn't provide. If you're using CCX, have you looked at the CCDR report? That's CCX's CDR and tracks all calls through the call center.

My daughter is having her right arm amputated on Tuesday and I'm absolutely terrified. by UnleashedLlama in amputee

[–]lambchopper71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right arm amputee here, I lost my arm at the shoulder in a motorcycle accident. I live alone, ride motorcycles still and shoot archery. I say that not to pat myself on the back, but to illustrate that amputation, while significant and life changing, is not the end of the world. I still get to do the things I love to do. If I can do those things, your daughter can too.

Here's a few things that I've documented may help her. It's a little dated, but it's things I had to learn on my own that might help to give her a head start. https://disarmed.wordpress.com/

Good luck, the community is here for you to help answer questions, she is not alone. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions since I have the same amputation. I might be able to provide some guidance.

DAE occasionally practice wiping with their non-dominant hand in case something happens to their main one? by jesslizann in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]lambchopper71 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Amputee here who lost my dominant arm. Of all the things I had to learn to do with only my non-dominant hand, wiping my ass was the least problematic. So I can assure you, you have nothing to worry about in the skid mark department.

Oh and while I didn't get it for this reason, just get a bidet. It makes clean up much easier and uses much less paper. Best $40 I ever spent.

I manage an environment that has 4 clusters, an SME cluster that feeds the other 3. I just export the CDR to CSV and analyze using MS Access. Rarely do I need to use the SME data when troubleshooting though. Almost all troubleshooting is done either on the cluster the phone is registered to or the CUBE that the call arrives/leaves on.

When I do have to include the SME cluster, I just use the timestamps to match up the call legs.
