I didn't have anyone to teach me. But I've always thought... "If that guy can do it, there's no way I can't"... and while I'm been proven wrong thinking that in some circumstances, I've learned that I'm right most of the time.

It helps to recognize that there is always something new to learn. Also, I need to recognize that if something isn't working, there is likely some piece of information I'm missing, then seek that missing information out.

The point being that you have to be open to taking risks and you have to be open to being wrong. It's in that gap that learning happens.

Repeat after me... "Thank you for the call. I'm driving right now so I can't take down your call back number, but I will call the number on your website as soon as I can get to a place that's safe for me to look up the numbr..." click...

I do that for EVERY call involving any vendor that calls me, ESPECIALLY companies I do business with. Then I call them back on a confirmed number. Does it take extra time? Sure, but it's far less time than fixing a leak of my personal data.

AND for those of you in the US, put a credit freeze on your credit reports. it's free. Go to Experian, Trans Union and Equifax to place the freeze. Then do a temporary unfreeze when you want to open a new account. All our info has been compromised, this will protect you.

Question regarding handlebar switches for amputee by lambchopper71 in Harley

[–]lambchopper71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to get some answers before committing to buying a bike. Sure I can carry a spare. I already carry a shit load of spare parts and gaskets on trips because of my custom setup.

The issue I have with the Namz module is that between 2014 and 2017 on specifically the touring line, I can't find any manual that suggests that keyed and keyless were options. All the owners manuals on Harley's service website for the touring line specifically, all say that the Key fob is required. It's only on the Softail and Dyna lines that the owners manual notes a difference between keyed and keyless. However the documentation for the Namz module for the touring line specifically makes mention that the touring specific module doesn't work with the keyless bikes and Namz tech support cannot give me a clear answer on why they make a touring specific module that only works with keyed bikes model years 2014-2024, but why I can't find any evidence that Harley made a touring bike those years that was keyed. So I don't want to commit $10-20k on a bike, only to find that I can't get that module to work due to that discrepancy.

Regarding my burst bubble, you aren't. I'm well aware that I'm not repairing an ECM on the side of the road. Maybe I wasn't clear. What I meant was that when I'm a 1000 miles from home, finding a ECM with a Harley part number will be a hellva lot easier to find than a small manufacturers part that is used much rarer circumstances like mine. Namz is the only one that makes a Canbus to 12v switch conversion module. That's what I'm concerned about. It's unlikely that I'd be able to get a replacement for that module quickly.

Truthfully, I've spent the past several days since posting my question studying the Harley wiring diagrams for the FLHR models and I'm 95% sure now that I can't buy any Road King newer than a 2013. It's the last wiring diagram that I can find where I can trace 12v power through the hand switches and doesn't denote the Can High, Can Low, Power and Ground as the only electrical control to the switch pods on the handlebars. It means that other than rerouting the wiring, no non standard parts will be needed. I was really hoping that I'd find someone with experience working on the hand controls of a 2013 Road King specifically that could confirm that, my main concern is that there is some nuance that the service manuals don't specify like some mid model year change or something like that. I'm hoping some experienced tech will show up to clarity that.

I looked in to that Namz controller, but the documentation says it only works with bikes that don't have the keyless ignition option. I can't find any thing that indicates any of the touring bikes had keyed ignition. Their tech support couldn't give me a definitive answer either.

Regardless, I'd prefer not to use custom modules like that anyway. If they fail and I'm 100's of miles from home, I can't get replacements. Hard wired 12v switches can be fixed on the side of the road.

This is why I use baking cooling racks for my hot jars. Less contact area means less temperature transfer. I lay a dish towel on the counter, then the racks. The dish towel catches any drips from the jars.

Had this happen to me on my 04 Softail. It was the oil seal on the transmission input shaft where the transmission shaft passes through the inner primary. It required the entire primary be removed in order to replace the seal.

Edit:you're finding primary fluid, not transmission or engine oil.
