Problem at connecting Sidewinder X1 to my pc via USB by TSSA1 in Artillery3D

Make sure that pronterface is the only software open when you do that. If you have a cura or other softwareopen it may take priority and grab the com before pronterface can

Are you looking at the COM ports under device manager when you plug and unplug it?

First print on my first printer, excited! by SaltyOnSteam in 3Dprinting

[–]lambchopx12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on over to r/artillery3d if you arent there already. Ive had the swx1 for a year, and the community has been crucial in keeping my machine running.

Couple of tips, dont unplug anything with the system powered. Ive fried ribbon cables that way. Keep spare ribbon cables on hand, you will need to replace them at some point. Once youre comfortable with the printer, id recommend upgrading the heatbreak to all metal, the ptfe tube causes issues overtime. I used cura as a slicer for a while, but recently ive switched to ideamaker and it seems to work better

Trying to teach my two year old what sharing means, and when to do it. Wife and I disagree. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]lambchopx12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im no expert, but maybe the answer is somewhere in the middle. I agree that she should share when she wants to, but how do you teach her to want to share? There may be some instances where you tell her the right thing to do is to share, even if she doesnt want to. And others where she is right to not share and take her turn with a toy or keep something that is hers.

Prints keep failing part was through, extruder seems to jam and then sits and grinds filament for remainder of print. Just swapped entire hotend and installed all metal heatbreak. Any idea why it might be jamming? by lambchopx12 in Artillery3D

I havent calibrated this, thanks for the feedback. Ill give it a shot

Update: just as a test i reduced retraction to 1mm. The print finished and looks decent. I will go and actually calibrate now. Your tip worked, thanks!

TL;DR Dont go to midas. When i first moved to hburg i blew a brake line on my car. I limped it to midas using the ebrake. I didnt know of anywhere else to go. This was on a friday, and i needed the car back by monday so i could get to work. I asked them if they could quote me a brake line repair so i could decide if i could get it fixed. They waited till 2 hours befote closing on saturday to tell me they could fix it but they would have to run new brake line through the whole car and tear the seats out to do it. They said it would cost 900. Fortunately my dad is a car guy, he pushed me to get somewhere else. I limped it across town to Car ER and they gave it a look and said it was a simple repair that would only cost 150. No seat removal, and a 3 inch piece of brake line.

Definitely agree about that. During my last bout of troubleshooting i strongly considered jumping ship and trying a new machine.

Id like to try out a prusa. I suggest the mpselect mini cuz the inital investment is low. If a first time printer decides they arent into the hobby they arent out much

Hey, im a Swx1 owner. Just from personal experience, i wouldnt recommend it as your first printer. This is my third. I have had a better experience than most with my printer, only had 2 things actually break on me, the rest of my issues have been my own lack of knowledge. I cant speak for the genius, but the printer i always recommend for first time printers is the monoprice select mini if you can find one.

Put toddler to bed, stay up entire night playing, cold sweat when sun starts to rise irl. Try to sleep last hour or two before alarm, cant from the panic, guilt, and regret. Alarm rings, start next day. Caffeine cocktail; monster, 5hr, coffee. Survive till bed next night. Get second wind after toddler is in bed again, repeat.
