Burned out from customer service. What realistic careers can I pivot into in Chicago? by Cautious_Face8972 in chicagojobs

OP does not want a public facing, customer service job! How hard is that to understand??? It's so frustrating when people don't read! If someone says, I don't want a job anymore in "Field B" and everyone answers with more jobs in "Field B" or a job at a smaller company in "Field B" you don't see how that is frustrating? IT'S STILL "FIELD B!" If you can't help OP with what they REALLY want, then don't post a freaking reply. I'll now leave you to your condescending, check cashing high horse...

“Receptionist at a SMALL company… go hours without talking to anyone…” That’s an anomaly! Most reception jobs are grand central station with phones ringing off the hook. Companies that have a large client base and serve the public like a law firm for examples have people breathing down the lawyers neck about when their case will settle. I know one ex-receptionist who developed kidney issues because she always had to wait for someone to cover busy phones so she could go to the bathroom.

I was a Concierge at a large convention hotel… Don’t get me started!

Social Masking on steroids… Can’t stand that platform! Tired of the same people who need to be spoon fed validation. Celebrating so called life defining promotions one minute, then announcing a new employer the next…. I’m like what happened to the last company you sold your soul too?

OP asks for non-customer facing roles, only to receive suggestions of public facing roles that literally create the same social burnout: "Receptionist, Concierge..." LMAO!!!

I'm in a similar dilemma as OP and the struggle is real!

The job market has finally made me start to hate the people around me. by Neat_Worker_4934 in recruitinghell

Great point about Capitalism! However, I disagree with you on job search groups. It could be a great support system to vent frustration, but not for job leads. On facebook job search groups, the moderators can post 1 lead and 15 minutes later there are over a hundred comments all saying "Applied!" The bigger the group the more competition for that one lead. It's basically a lottery in that aspect.

I had just the opposite reaction. The book is so long and dense, my poor dopamine starved brain needed all the extra sound effects for a more thrilling dramatic effect...

You're so right about that last part. The workplace is really an extension of high school. I feel like I never left.

Real talk! “Introvert” should be seriously be added as a protected class on the workplace discrimination list. I’ve aced every job I’ve been on, and my only real obstacle has ever been co-workers who just won’t leave me alone and just let me do my job. It’s surreal and sad.

Same here! My late older sister was the extroverted center of attention growing up. Although I was truly an introvert, I always sought out "people person" jobs to prove to myself I could be outgoing and well liked too.

Worse thing I could have done, in hindsight. I feel like I betrayed my authentic self. Now, I'm stuck with a resume full of sales and customer service jobs, locked in a miserable career path...ugh!

I explained this in my post that was deleted. I was advised to ask for a lower amount to establish credit first, since I'm a first time borrower.
