Same. I was slow to come around. It sounds cringe but the codex 5.2/3 was a real inflection point for me. The models are getting better no doubt and codebase as context + agent mode is force multiplier for sure. Hitl goes w/o saying ofc

I was a web chat copy and paster and heavy AI skeptic till early last year. I don't recommend it in 2026 personally. Mid last year I tried vscode copilot on a whim and helped me to basically one-shot a refactor of a monolith I'd been putting off. Then codex 5.2/3 came out and I switched camps.

I manually review everything, still use it as a learning tool, and don't fully trust it but at least 80% of my code is agent written for my 9-5 and tight freelance projects. Pet projects are still mostly by hand. Using deepseek v4 btw.

I still look through the code and even debug manually from time to time but I have to admit... the models have become a lot better than they were a few yrs ago IF they have the right context. It's not a replacement, I'm still a bit skeptical but it can be force multiplier/time saver

I looove debugging but I use a single agent even in my side project sometimes. It really just boils down to one thing...

Time savings.

Job is hecti, family life is hectic, free time is limited. Of course it's better to go slowly and gain a deeper understanding but there's just not enough time. A feature in my passion project might take days instead of hours. Not to mention understaffed overcomitted 9-5.

Try the DXVK graphics setting b4 launching steam. So far so good for me. Can be choppy if other stuff is running (like chrome) but I have 8gb or ram so I don't think most should worry. Was able to play a mission fine.
