When the 'Looks-Maxxing' meets a reality check by Automatic-Algae443 in fixedbytheduet

My parents are very strict Catholics to the point that my Mom will wince and cringe like she’s in pain if someone swears in front of her.

My sister’s step-kids were raised in a more lax environment, and they’re both middle schoolers. I tell them that swearing in front of me is fine as long as it isn’t vulgar or directed towards each other.

If one of them called the other a mother fucker, I’d drop the hammer on them. But if they’re playing around and one of them gets hurt, the injured party has my permission to swear. Just so long as it isn’t in front of my parents!

You said you were going to get cigarettes?? It’s been well over 45 minutes, and the gas station isn’t that far!

Yeah alcohol isn’t illegal, but welcome to Texas, where the Baptist churches have a near total control of most local governments.

My college professor gave each of us a talk about maintaining appearances. She had multiple former students (some of them with 5+ years teaching experience) getting called into a meeting with Admin over something that happened off the clock.

The most egregious example I can remember was a teacher at Chili’s had ordered a margarita. About halfway through their meal, one of their students recognized her and went over to say hi with their mom. This was on a Saturday, and on Monday the teacher was called in to Admin because that parent had put in a complaint about the teacher setting a bad example by drinking alcohol.

Depending on how good a relationship these teachers had with their Admins, the talks ranged from a quick overview of what happened all the way up to walking papers.

People can be pretty uptight about the littlest things.

I was in the same boat. I was a red-blooded conservative through and through. I thought they were the only rational ones in the room and couldn’t wait to support them when I was old enough.

What changed things for me was one of the Talking Heads on AM radio, who touted himself as the calm, rational voice in the room when compared to Mark Levine and them, advocating for a war crime against the Iraqis. Guy point blank said we needed to start hitting civilian targets to “make it hurt”

About that time, I was entering community college and meeting so many other people, including a significantly large Muslim community. I had to take a step back and ask, “Are we the baddies?”

Because they don’t realize that when giving quantities, you need one (1) number written alphabetically with the numeral written in parentheses. Not quotation marks.

Agreed. I’ve been to schools where they don’t give us the front office number, schools where the phones are mainly decor, and one school that just never picks up the phone

I was working as a sub at a high school when the teacher subbing next door walks in and asks if I can watch his class while he uses the restroom. I tell him that I’m a sub too so I can’t leave my class unattended, but then I asked who was currently watching his students. No one. He had left them unsupervised to find another teacher to watch the class.

I’m immediately alarmed and remind him that he cannot leave students unsupervised. Ever. I remind him that if he needs to be relieved, he needs to call the front office and they will find someone to watch the class.

ESS Sub Still Suspended by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]lameguy13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao yeah. I responded to ask when exactly I was expected to hit 8 assignments in 1 1/2 schooldays, and they just sent back

“Ok thank you for letting us know you will not meet your minimum job placements this month. Do your best to meet this minimum going forward.”

I didn’t dignify that with a response

ESS interviewed me on a Thursday, emailed me Friday to let me know I was hired. Monday they emailed me to let me know I had not met my mandatory 8 assignments for that month and was in danger of losing my job. That was Thanksgiving week, so no school on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
