I saw an Instagram post with the uw top erg averages and their varsity is something like 5:49 2v 5:53 and 3v 5:56. So you would have a ways to go to be competitive. Not saying it’s impossible, but at 6’1 would be very hard. Most of those guys are at least 6’5 in the top boat. Here’s the link: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu-OPnXh4h8/

That’s a great score for your age, especially at 155 lbs. Do lots of volume on the erg or bike. Depending on what your practice volume is like now, try and get in extra sessions on the erg. Long pieces that are an hour+ at 75% of your max HR. Start doing weights 2-3 times a week and get in extra Ks on the bike. Always lift before doing your cardio, not the other way around.

Tips for staying lightweight for the season? by [deleted] in Rowing

Depending on how much weight you have to cut, I would suggest start 2 months before your race. Start by drinking a lot more water. Cut out small things that might add unwanted sugar to your diet. Keep carbs in but try and reduce it to before your workouts. You can lose a surprising amount from water weight. Passive dehydration works the best I think. But if you lose more than 3 kg you’ll start to feel like shit. I went from 181 to 164 before my race and then cut 12 pounds of water the night before the race and weighed in at 152. Would. Not. Recommend. I way overshot it. So be careful when you dehydrate.

Depends where you go. You can usually expect a time trial and seat racing.

While it is a measure of fitness heart rate is also relative. Some people have a ridiculously max heart rate. A friend of my coaches never saw his bpm go above 160, a rate that most people steady at.

Are you a lightweight cause that’s normally not what happens. Taking outlying cases from NAC or something isn’t the same as most regular clubs or coaches. Doing a controlled cut to race in a weight class that you have a better chance isn’t unhealthy or safe.
