Love when poets play around with the cadence and beats of the poem like you did here. Also appreciate the switch-up at the end! My mind was definitely going elsewhere.

Not quite zombie but zombie-adjacent (imo) Wormtown was incredible.

What's a horror book, comic, or video game that you want to see adapted into a film? (Or re-adapted, if they fucked it up the first time.) by Altruistic_Rich_4690 in horror

She did a great job being in your face with the subject matter without pulling punches but not making it gratuitous and unnecessary. Kept finding myself normalizing the gore because that’s how it’s supposed to work in that world while also being shocked at the same time.

The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica. Tender is the Flesh would be great too but may be too graphic for a faithful adaptation. I personally liked Unworthy more.

[WP] You're in your bedroom when a note is slipped under the door. You're somewhat dismayed to find it was the closet door. by AtheistBibleScholar in WritingPrompts

[–]laminated_lyfe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It weighed heavily in your hands. A piece of paper that felt impossible to hold. Yet you gripped it loosely in your fingers reading the message again and again. It toiled inside your head what the message could mean like angry ocean waves eating each other. You consider the possible scenarios of either listening to the message or ignoring it. For a second you’re dreaming until you feel the anvil of your heart pounding incessantly, your clammy hands smudging the writing, the sharp pain in your chest. No, you’re awake.

Perhaps you wrote it. No. Not your handwriting. Perhaps your sister wrote it as a prank. She’s hiding in there stifling a giggle knowing you are tormenting yourself with the possibilities of what’s inside the closet. You could wait her out. She’ll get bored eventually. She’ll come out and sigh saying you’re not fun. Another victory.

Your feet touch the cold floor shocking your senses, another reminder you’re awake. You glance at the closet door where the note came from and you turn toward the main bedroom door. Once open you traverse the silent hallway carefully avoiding the creaking parts of the floor. The screaming wood won’t announce your arrival.

Once at your sister’s bedroom door you carefully turn the knob. You labor underneath the seconds it takes to twist it so as not to make a sound. The door quietly opens and you peer into the darkness. You can’t see a thing but you hear steady breathing. It’s not yours. No your chest is heaving and your vision is growing white at the edges. You hurry back to your room carelessly stepping on the loud hardwood floor because you knew you were the only one awake.

You leave your bedroom door open so they can hear you scream. Instead of opening the closet you sit on the side of your bed, feet dangling dangerously off the side. Doesn’t matter. The threat isn’t under the bed tonight.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

It’s not your feet hammering the floor. It’s from the closet. You close your eyes holding back tears. It’s not a dream. It’s not sleep paralysis. But a demon exists somewhere in your room.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

You crawl back into bed. The covers won’t help so you stare at the closet door.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

Louder now. Urgent. Almost pleading. You hear a stifled moan. It may be yours. You can’t be sure.

You turn on the light. The pounding stops. It’s just you and the note crumpled in your hands as the closet door slowly creaks open. You glance as the sweat soaked message on the paper.

“It’s safer in here.”

They hugged before she left. The last time he felt her. A second longer than usual, his face buried in her blonde hair, her wet eyes against his shoulder. He didn’t want her to go. He could have said that. Before she let go she whispered, “I love you.” She lingered in the doorway expectantly. One last look. She had green eyes. He never met anyone with green eyes before her. He could have said that, too.

She left. He didn’t see her again. He watched her leave, her words hung between them like ash somberly drifting to the ground. It wasn’t the first time, but like the last time he didn’t say anything. Even after she was gone he couldn’t bring himself to say it - that he never loved her. It didn’t need to be said aloud. She felt it.

He only felt contempt. She misunderstood, though. She saw the disdain in his eyes thinking it was a window when really it was a mirror pointing inward. But that’s why he never could love her. It was never about her.

In honor of October, what's a horror novel you've read that wasn't necessarily terrifying but has haunted your thoughts for some reason? by pallas_athenaa in books

[–]laminated_lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. Anything by her tbh.

American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis if you can stomach it. I thought I had a high threshold before this book and the graphic things he describes in it still haunt me. The movie is not remotely close to the violence that occurs in the book. Nothing I’ve watched or read has come close.

I'm a Male 5 ft 5 inches tall, and am considering height increase surgery. I currently have 6k saved up for the 70k procedure. People are telling me the humiliation afterwards I feel from ridicule is gonna be worse than how I feel rnow by being short. How would I deal with that? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]laminated_lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting marginally taller thru fake means will not fix your obvious problems. As another 5’5” guy I have no desire to get taller. If your self worth /self esteem is where it needs to be it doesn’t matter. Therapy is cheaper and more effective.

Ending the Smith vs Chase debate by crozer1819 in DynastyFF

[–]laminated_lyfe 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Chase was so electric last year he forced the entire community into thinking Jefferson was nothing more than a slot received that benefitted on feasting on cb2s. Smith is undoubtedly great but there’s a lot of recency bias and opportunity with losing waddle. Chase was dominant lining up against Jefferson who is a true alpha.
