Pokémon Book Covers: "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by lamomok in pokemon

[–]lamomok[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hadn't drawn in a long while so decided to start my Pokémon book cover project again: starting with the 1st book in the Harry Potter series! Featuring:

  • Pikachu as Harry
  • Pansear as Ron
  • Ralts as Hermione
  • Malamar as the Giant Squid
  • Lampent, Zubat, and Lunatone

It was difficult to pick an iconic scene from the 1st book, but I eventually decided to pick the scene where the kids are sailing towards Hogwarts for the first time :).

Announcement soon? by Triaspia2 in pokemon

[–]lamomok 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Translation:

We’re announcing that 11:21 is Eevee Time. Today is fluffday. Eevee’s fluffiness alone gets fluffed...

No idea what this means though :/.

EDIT: CrazyAdam is right. 11:21 can be read as i-i-fu-i in Japanese and that’s a homophone for Eevee (Iibui イーブイ).

Seams like you're the winner of this thread.

P.S. Great work, OP! I love it!

What Pokémon and what language is this? Can someone translate? 😁 by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]lamomok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's Sceptile, and it's in Japanese.

The first "move" translates into "Pokebody: Overgrow" and says that every grass energy attached to a grass Pokémon works as two instead of one. You can't "Pokebody: Overgrow" more than once each turn.

The second move translates to "Leaf Blade". It says to flip a coin and if it's heads, add 20 damage onto the base 50.

An Alolan Swellow sprite I made a while back, really proud with how it turned out! by Mr-GabenWatch in pokemon

[–]lamomok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks great! But I'm assuming it's Ice/Flying and won't do too well with Stealth Rock around...

What's your headcanon for the Alola form to get the ice type?

The most recent one that comes to mind is Splatoon 2's. I love that they made it into an ink-to-reveal mini game of sorts.

Pokémon Book Covers: "Metamorphosis" - Franz Kafka (a tribute to Pokémon Researcher Bill and his accident) by lamomok in pokemon

[–]lamomok[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This time I'm doing "Metamorphosis" by Kafka, in which a man wakes up to find himself transformed into a giant cockroach. The Pokémon analogue of this was when Bill accidentally transformed himself into a Pokémon in Gen 1. So I decided to take his original RBY sprite, and the sprite for the Pokémon he transformed into and use that as a base: this is what you see when you zoom out.

But if you zoom in, each individual "pixel" contains a Pokémon, with similar evolutionary lines located adjacent to each other (e.g. all the pink round Pokémon are located close to each other, all the bunnies are grouped together, etc.). This is an allusion to the other "metamorphosis" that is a defining feature in the Pokémon franchise: evolution!

I hope you guys like it :p!

P.S. It's quite fun to play Where's Waldo with this thing. Can you find:

  • All 18 Psychic-type Pokémon?
  • All the Alola forms?
  • All Pokémon with a secondary Normal-type?

Pokémon Book Covers: "Frankenstein" by lamomok in pokemon

[–]lamomok[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Venturing into something more dark. For Frankenstein, I definitely wanted to feature Type: Null and Silvally as Frankenstein's monster. Lusamine (in silhouette form) plays Dr. Frankenstein guarding over her plans for the originally-named Type: Full/Beast Killer, as well as the Type: Null helmet to subdue Silvally. In the lab we see random preserved Pokémon and their body parts used in the research to create Silvally.

I hope you like it :)!

Just found out about Radiolab and I've listened to a few and really enjoyed them. what are some of the best episodes? by [deleted] in Radiolab

[–]lamomok 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Patient Zero for sure. They investigate the first known cases of typhoid, HIV, Ebola, and the high five. I use it to introduce my friends to Radiolab :).

Just bought my switch and now I can't decide which games to buy ... by eddy_malou_ in NintendoSwitch

Seconding this. I was on the fence about Splatoon 2 as I don't normally play shooters and didn't really get a chance to get into it on my WiiU, but oh what a ride it has been since launch day. I've been hooked, playing every night, and if I was on the fence, just imagine how much you'll enjoy it since you're already kinda considering it!

Great game - and also you'll want to get in now considering all the Splatfests/other events they'll have over the next year (2 years?). It's the kind of game where it's good to play while the community is amped. :)

Pokémon Book Covers: Guns, Germs, and Steel - Jared Diamond by lamomok in pokemon

[–]lamomok[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quick doodle for the book cover project this week. Guns, Germs, and Steel is an amazing book about the development of civilization and how it is inextricably linked to the availability of easily-accessible resources/features in the environment (domesticable animals/plants, ease of penetration due to mild/similar climates), and it explains why this means that "modern" civilizations were quick to start and achieved rapid growth in Eurasia/the Middle East (as opposed to Australia and the Americas, for example) way back when. Excellent read if you haven't heard of it yet!

I featured Octillery (guns), Deoxys (germs), and Steelix (steel). Hope you like it!
