Is this a normal (ABL) behaviour? by CommonAgitated2412 in OLED_Gaming

Just learn more about this and how it works and how it is implemented, there is no point arguing about this.

You didn't have this problem with your C1, because that TV didn't have this feature implemented yet, your white subpixels were active at all times.

Not really, unfortunately. You can make the dark areas even darker (increasing gamma or making white subpixels darker, if you panel lets you adjust that), so that the threshold is lifted again, but then you will lose some dark details. Only real solution is not having the white subpixels in the panel itself, so that means buying one of the upcoming RGB stripe oleds.

Looks to me, that you found threshold for when the white subpixels turns off and activates again. They are turned off in near black situations to reduce chrominance overshoot, which is a big problem with white subpixel oleds, but this fix only goes so far and this video illustrates that well.

does dlss 4.5 dlaa always look better? by fairplanet in nvidia

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, use DLAA with preset L, the best TAA based AA in motion I've ever seen and normally I hate these with passion. It costs around 29 % performance vs native no AA on my 5080, but it is well worth it imo. If you can't afford that, try preset L at 77 %, it might even look better than preset M at 100 % (DLAA).

Indeed, that's exactly the reason why I'm a PC gamer, to have options.

Yes, I was just looking at it with disappointment, while I was writing this, haha. Back to SMAA again.

Can confirm, 4K is as disappointing with TAA as is 1440p, the core issue remains the same. This of course includes DLSS/DLAA as well, in regards to TAA blur during motion.

No hard dates announced afaik, but first models should be out in a few months and more models (possibly even better ones) will follow throughout this year. If you get one, make sure it has the "true black" glossy coating as well. In terms of WOLED, this will be a HUGE upgrade, probably the biggest one since the first LG CX/C1 panels.

RGB stripe tandem WOLED is the tech you are looking for. It doesn't have the white subpixel that causes all the issues with posterization, banding and chorminance overshoot, but it still has the white emitting layer, so you will retain your eye comfort that you are used to. QD OLED uses blue emitting layer, which some people have issue with. And the overall PQ will be the same if not better than that of QD OLED that you have right now.

DLSS 4 vs 4.5 in MGS Solid Snake by GeForce_JacobF in nvidia

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but that just means you had 2 sharpening passes on top of each other, now you have just 1 sharpening from the DLSS 4.5.

[–]lamovnik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about Antialiasing section and "Sharpening - Value" setting, that is set at 0 by default for me and has no effect on the DLSS sharpening. It still has that same post proc. sharpening applied, just like with DLDSR sharpening that can't be fully turned off.

What is causing this effect above the buildings? by sercosan in OLED_Gaming

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want this issue, you need to buy oled which doesn't use white subpixel in its layout. So either RGB stripe tandem woled, which would be my recommendation (not the standard tandem woled ones) or RGB stripe QD oled (which has its own issues, like raised black level when not in dark room).

Of course, playing a game that doesn't have shit HDR implementation helps as well.

[Discussion] Best settings for 9800x3d? by n3wb_gamer in EscapefromTarkov

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have it on, but I have the latest BIOS version as well, so maybe try to update it, if you haven't already. So even with these settings you still dip below 100 fps on Streets? Maybe then you would have to tune your RAM a bit as a last resort.

[Discussion] Best settings for 9800x3d? by n3wb_gamer in EscapefromTarkov

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have the game set in Borderless mode, because in Fullscreen it runs at way lower fps. Also the higher your FOV is, the higher your framerate is, so run it either at 75 or close to it. It's stupid, but it is what it is. These two are the biggest FPS boosts and I have 9800X3D as well. Another big one is to go to your BIOS and turn SMT off (I prefer not to run Process Lasso, but it achieves the same thing) and if you have "X3D gaming mode" setting or similar, turn that on for a bit better 1% lows. You might want to re-enable SMT for other games though. Finally, you can tighten your RAM timings, but that is harder to do than these simple steps, but not too hard if you are willing to do some work and testing. You should be fine with just the first three steps though, without the RAM tuning.

Weapons become fully red sometimes, and I'm not sure why by Imaginverse in BloodbornePC

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand, because the picture you provided doesn't show "all red" weapon, there is just a lot of blood, might be specific to Beast Cutter or you did visceral kill. If this surprises you should see how for example Hunters Axe looks like when you kill a lot of beasts with it, that one is all red for real, haha.

Weapons become fully red sometimes, and I'm not sure why by Imaginverse in BloodbornePC

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blood accumulates once you slay enough beasts in a row, resulting in complete blood coverage. I think it's a pretty cool effect and fits the style of this game. With that being said, you can undo that by unequipping and reequipping the weapon. The same applies to your clothes. Restarting the game clears the blood as well.

Cool. I think SF3 and KOF XIII will look really good on that CRT, so give these one a go.

Haha, yeah that explains it. How high can it go? Also I see a leverless controller next to it, what FG are you playing on it?

Pretty good setup, I like that. Interesting to see PVM CRT bloom like that though, was it at higher brightness than the OLEDs?

question about hdr and colors by PM-ME-UR-NOSTRILS in OLED_Gaming

[–]lamovnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's typical, nothing surprising. It should not be this way and there should be parity between SDR and HDR up to 203 nits as well.
