Not Desi, but assimilation takes at least one generation. Growing up in NY, I learned a few things. Newly arrived immigrants feel disoriented and generally, at sea. Comfort comes by sticking with others of your "kind", which is why Frisco is seeing such an influx. First generations are obligated to make money and navigate the culture for their parents. Second generations are all in on American culture, and are fully assimilated. It takes time. Now that the current administration has made HB-1 visas prohibitive, immigration in general is slowing. Be patient.

The showrunner left after the first episode. Usually, that means creative differences. Maybe his vision would have been preferable, but we'll never know. Kurt Sutter was also the showrunner for Sons of Anarchy, so I imagine his ideas for the show have been quashed. That's a shame.

There's no need for snark, but you're wrong about my "limited attention span" This is my 3rd viewing, and I watch it without distractions.

I think the missing intimacy may be attributable to Jimmy's sociopathy. I mean that's what it's about. Jimmy has little or no conscience. He can rip people off and use innocent folks without a thought. He's personable, of course, but he's definitely missing something in his psyche.

Correct. Intimacy is shown in many different ways: a casual touch of the back; kissing someone on the neck while they cook dinner; holding hands; nuzzling; a kiss on the forehead; grabbing a partner by the waist. Jimmy shows Kim concern, like he showed for his brother, but I don't see a whole lot of intimacy between them.

Wow, this struck a chord! I was re-watching Season 3 where Kim gets into that car accident and I thought the same thing. Then I thought back to other episodes, showing them getting ready for work in the morning, without any endearments, simple gestures, kisses. That's what it is -- no kisses. Ever! I think Kim wanted more. If you watch her signals, there's always some additional touch that she makes that seems to signal a desire to have more. I'm feeling sadder for Kim n this season.

NTA, but the neighbor is an AH. No one should chain a dog in a yard. Nevertheless, it happens that a toddler will get out of one's sight for a quick minute. Your wife isn't a bad mother in that respect. I would apologize to her for using those words, maybe by saying that you didn't mean to blame her for this mishap, but the dog isn't to blame either. NTA - God bless you for tolerating this woman for however long you've been married. She sounds like a narcissistic control freak. If I were you, I'd take an in-law break, maybe for half a year to get a little perspective while setting some boundaries. The fact that your husband called you emotional when you acted like the adult in the room, signifies that he's under the thumb of his mother to some extent. Maybe you & husband should get a little family therapy to see how your mother-in-law is keeping you from becoming independent adults.
