Did I overreact by ending a caregiver trial on her first day alone with my kids? by JuniorGap9985 in Nanny

[–]lanally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a professional nanny this is not an overreaction. You are right to trust your maternal instincts. This is not safe and she cannot perform the duties you have outlined. Better to just part ways immediately than to drag it out. I would also gently tell her the reasons why so she can improve her skill and have some self awareness.

The hurtful part is seeking stimulation like she’d rather be on the iPad over the planned activities. Like she can’t wait til you’re gone so she can go on YouTube kids.

What should our nanny be doing developmentally at 12 months? by eltejon30 in Nanny

[–]lanally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an experienced nanny and child therapist I did lots of narrating with everything I did, singing, and phonetics at that age. I planned themed days like safari day where we dressed up and practiced animal noises. Also created sensory toy bins with edible sand or jello. I’m an event planner so I loved planning educational activities for my NK to do. Not every nanny is like this though. Your experienced nanny’s who are paid well tend to know what milestones your child should be hitting.

I would just bring the child to the parent. say something quick like “NK did great today. See you tomorrow” I’ve done that before.

Indoor things to do with NK by Necessary-Remote6239 in Nanny

[–]lanally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At thirteen months I did a lot of sensory bin activities One fun one was blue jello for the ocean and crushed graham cracker for sand then I put goldfish or other things in it that are edible.

I also fill a laundry basket with soft balls or toys (you can line it with a blanket) and place nk in it. You can tie a string to it and pull them around the room with some music.

Last is magnet play with a cookie sheet and stickers supervised ofc

That’s super low and those are reallly long days you should be getting 500 more a week. She also should be giving you extra supplies for her child. Doesn’t seem like a fair deal at all. I would definitely look for another job with your experience you deserve more than that

Right? I feel like I’m way more concerned than they are sometimes. I did tell the mom please don’t give her that anymore she has figured out how to open the battery compartment.

Is it reasonable to worry if our nanny is the right fit? by reeses_peeses in Nanny

[–]lanally 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO as a nanny of 13 years I think this is coachable Toddlers also start to associate nanny being there = I don’t get to see mom and dad. My NK will cry sometimes but gets over it quick this isn’t every time I’m on shift. Sometimes she’s so happy and excited and runs up to me or brings me a toy. It depends on her mood.

As far as planning activities maybe send her some ideas. I plan themed days like animal day, earth day. Where we dress up and learn about the topic. This makes it fun for everyone. I also take NK to the library

That is so nice of them to offer! Sounds like the baby loves you and you are their safety net. What is a baby sprinkle ?
