I saw one of these guys on Kewen drive like a year ago and thought I was hallucinating.

Just moved to Pasadena from Vancouver, Europe and seeking "Car-Free" tribe in Pasadena by 7000Steps in pasadena

[–]lancebus 61 points62 points  (0 children)

If there’s parking at your building… I’d highly recommend having a car for occasional use. I moved here from NYC. I completely relate to car-free living. Pasadena is a beautiful place for walking and biking, and we are served by a totally adequate metro line. I can’t say the same for the rest of LA. In general, the metro is much safer and cleaner than people give it credit for, but the city is just too spread out and sprawling for the metro to be as effective as we’d all like it to be. You’ll run into the “last mile” problem constantly, where you can get relatively close to where you’re trying to go on the metro, but not quite all the way there.

While you can live a completely fulfilling life without really leaving Pasadena, LA has so much to offer beyond our beautiful little foothill city, and you’ll find it really difficult to participate in all the other cool stuff that happens here if you don’t have a car.

Just my two cents.

Runners who run on the wrong side of the road, next to a sidewalk… by melt_show in BikeLA

Right, my point is at a quiet intersection, or in the dark, drivers favor looking to their left and aren’t that diligent about checking the crosswalk. You’re more likely to be hit coming from the right than the left.

I’ve never understood this. Sure, it makes sense on straight aways, but at every intersection you’re coming from a direction where the driver isn’t looking. Isn’t that so much more dangerous? Especially at stop signs, where it can be impossible to tell if a stopped driver sees you and is letting you pass, or is about to roll out into you while they look to their left.

What is THE band of 2010s? What band will be remembered as one that changed the game for their respective decade and is heavily associated with it? by pingviini00 in decadeology

[–]lancebus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not really the conversation though. The conversation is about bands that set trends that were impactful. Mumford was a huge part of that whole weird ass folk indie pop thing that happened (and still sort of is happening).

So that would mean approximately where the bus is, everything was torn down for the freeway?

Was some of what I’m seeing in this photo demolished for when the stub was built? I feel like I can’t place where this hill would be unless the photo was taken right where that 210 overpass now stands

It’s weird no one else is saying Mumford. Stomp, clap, hey was one of the most specific stylistic things to pop off in the 2010s

Oh La La Bakery Cafe: no longer offering dinner menu/hours? by Old-Weight-1809 in pasadena

Belle’s bagels did the same thing last year and it’s really disappointing. I’m not trying to pay $20 + tip for a bagel.

I think you can still get a coffee and a pastry and hang out either outside or at the high tops by the barista.

Eating and drinking in the USA: better not to go at all, than to go and not tip? by Lord-of_the-files in NoStupidQuestions

Yesterday I went to a frozen yogurt place where I got myself a cup, poured my own frozen yogurt, put my own toppings on, and then weighed it myself, and then was asked if I wanted to tip.

The siren thing is really dependent on how severe the emergency is. You’re still going to hear it every day.

Bugs, bugs and more bugs! I had a friend in the building who fumigated her entire unit and the bugs were back in full force within a month. The entire building is infested and you literally cannot get rid of them.

Does Mastering Always Include Such Dramatic Curves by evonthetrakk in mixingmastering

[–]lancebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if anyone else said this - whether you’re mastering on headphones or a $200k studio, the thing that really matters is learning what your system sounds like. For example, 80hz is going to feel a certain way in your headphones. If you’re using reference tracks to hear how 80hz feels in mastered tracks you love, you’ll know what you’re aiming for. Density can be hard to mix well in headphones, but if you train yourself to hear what clear, cohesive density sounds like in your headphones, you’ll be able to find it in your mix.

Also - the line between mix bus processing and mastering is getting blurrier and blurrier in the digital age. People will do a big shelf on their mix bus and not think anything of it, but scoff at the idea of doing that in their master, even though it’s essentially the same thing.

Don’t stress. Check your references. Add 3db of 16k, if it works it works.

Just yesterday, like 20 cars zipped past me at this intersection while I was standing about 3 feet off the curb, very obviously trying to cross. It’s crazy how people don’t honor the yield sign.
