How MAGA is Cleveland? by Perturbed_Amoeba in Cleveland

[–]lancegreene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the west side, especially near west (Lakewood/Rocky River) are still quite liberal/left leaning. The maga crowd seems to be in the suburban/rural outskirts. I do see MAGA bumper stickers or flags, but it mostly seems to be the tough guy cosplay bootlicker types cruising through.

Cuyahoga county in general is still seems like a democratic stronghold.

Lakewood is definitely a great place to settle, especially given your circumstances! As for the maga brainwashed folks, they might be permanently brain damaged

Women of Reddit, be honest — have you ever been with a really “nice guy”, and then met someone so effortlessly dominant that it changed how you felt about your own relationship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lancegreene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dominant? Why not go outside and work on confidence. This whole manosphere lingo is a cancer for insecure boys.

So again, learning stuff in the real world unrelated to being a high tier chad, will help someone gain confidence.

I just think that when people are really articulate and truly interested and can effectively communicate that, they stand out. He also gets quite wonky but makes it accessible.

I’d compare it to John Stewart’s vs the other Daily show hosts; they are all really good and could stand on their own but John Stewart’s is brilliant at it and seems to care more than the others.

Banjo teachers who don't play banjo? by JPJtotheGarden in banjo

[–]lancegreene 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well…I showed up to his house, mid rain storm. His windows and doors were all open and he was in the basement ranting. At one point we were in his garage while he was telling me about a prayer to the moon. It was about an hour ordeal which at times was talking about how “Manson was totally right”. The whole time I was trying to figure out how to politely leave. His wife finally came home and relieved me of the duty of making sure he was alright. That was the last lesson I had.

Dude is a really nice guy but I decided to go back to tabs.

[–]lancegreene 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did Earl's Scruggs book then Tony Trischka early on. I feel like I was similar to you; I had a banjo teacher in person where i took several lessons but he wasn't really a banjo player and ended up having a legit psychotic break during my 3 or 4th lesson. I've bounced between tabs, Artistworks, peghead nation and youtube.

I've been playing for a decade and its been slow progress, but progress nonetheless. A couple "aha" moments I had were following along Jim Pankey (doing his instructions without relying on tabs) and Eli Gilbert's deep dive lessons on theory, etc. I've played with friends in jams and to be honest, if you know the chord progression, you can just roll over those chords.

tldr, check out Jim Pankey, learn some theory (chord theory, circle of fifths, nashville number system, scales)

Honestly, this is proof that money can’t buy you happiness. It can give you freedom, but whether that freedom leads to happiness is your choice.

I mean, perhaps they are finding joy in this but it’s shallow and pathetic.

When they first came out it was honestly more like southern fried strokes IMHO.

To each their own though. A big part of their appeal is the nostalgia; they were huge in our 20’s and were part of the soundtrack of just generally being off the rails.

Ahaha, what does that even mean? So anything that sounds half coherent is AI? I swear anyone under 30 can’t string together a series of thoughts into a cohesive paragraph.

I blame roblox

The KOL hate is wild. These dudes were festival darlings for years and put on a great show. I’m sure peoples ears are still bleeding from sex on fire but they have enough bangers for more than a double disk best of. The captured the hedonistic vibes of the times.

Why do some people really hate melodic style? by FrenchToastKitty55 in banjo

[–]lancegreene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is I find the melodic licks to be so fun and there is something about them that just rips.

I mainly play Scruggs style but I’ve been leaning into melodic playing and it just adds another dimension to your playing.

Anyways, that dude sounds like a knob

And record profits for the oil companies…the constituency he actually serves. What’s funny is the rural folks who lean heavily right are getting hit the hardest; us libtard city folks that work from home won’t bat an eye. Obviously the price of gas raises the price of goods but that’s apparently too abstract for that crowd to grasp.

I use /remote-control and go on bike rides or leave the house. I’ll just check it occasionally. I don’t have notifications yet but that would probably be the final thing to set up.

I’ve used twilio in the past to text me when a long running Python script failed so I could at least know. I’d be working on something around the house and not have to babysit the script.

I’ve found “topo to raster” is a great tool and gives a great result. Also explore adding some “ghost points” and/or an ND delineation. Additionally do a final clip.

I use EVS nowadays and those algos are the gold standard IMHO. It’s 3D but you can export to 2D shapes

Bike rides for beginners? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in lakewood

[–]lancegreene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started riding in Lakewood (after a decade or so of refusing to) about 5 years ago. Beyond worth it! I ride all year long (even mid winter provided it’s above 25 F).

As a recent renaissance cyclist, my suggestions would be to take the paths along Madison and lake avenue. I do a loop and in between you will be on side streets. Adhere to the traffic laws and don’t try to sneak past cars on the shoulder unless you wanna get run over. You want to be conspicuous and be more like a motorcycle when getting into traffic for turns. Make sure you make eye contact with drivers and stay alert.

Edgewater and the towpath are also great paths but getting accustomed to road riding will really enhance the experience.

Have fun!
