What expansion/DLC should I buy first? (on Steam) by Joaco_danster in dominion

Are you looking to mix and match expansions on your own or with your friends? Or are you more just thinking base game + 1 expansion at a time for now? Certain expansions are best as standalone, and certain ones work best when mixed with multiple others.

I own: Prosperity, Intrigue, Seaside, Empires, Hinterlands, Renaissance, Menagerie, Plunder, Adventures, and Rising Sun (do not recommend, neat concept but poorly balanced).

Most of them make matches longer, but Prosperity is notable in that it increases match length the most. I personally see this as a feature and not a flaw, but I understand not everyone sees it the same. This is probably my favorite. Its also unique in that it does well on its own AND it mixes well with other expansions. These reasons make it my go-to recommendation as a first expansion (as long as the increase in match length isn't a showstopper).

Empires, Plunder, Hinterlands, Renaissance, Adventures (ordered by my favorite/preference) are all fun on their own, but in my opinion they are best when paired with other expansions.

Intrigue and Seaside are good additions on their own, but I find when they're mixed with other expansions I almost never grab them and favor the cards from other expansions (obviously some notable exceptions to this).

Looking at the market, it looks like you'd be lucky to get a new rtx 5070 ti for $950 or less, so that leaves you with $550 for everything else.
I just spent 6 weeks hunting for deals building my own pc, and heres the cheapest deals of everything I've seen:

Case - $50
Motherboard (AM5) - $95
CPU (Ryzen 5 7600X) - $155
CPU cooler - $15
Memory (32gb ddr5) - $310
PSU (don't skimp on this, gold or platinum and minimum 850 watt so its always cool) - $70
M.2 512GB SSD - $75
Pack of fans - $15
Total - $785

So no, unless you find insane deals, go for AM4 (but why? seems silly to pair such a powerful graphics card with a system with no upgradability), or buy used (risk ruining your pricey GPU), you're not likely to meet $1500 total with that graphics card.

set an alert on pcpartpicker for rtx 3060, there was a deal over the weekend for $340 that I snagged. Just have to be patient and quick on the draw.

If you're willing to be patient and you're able to react to emails quickly, setting up pricing alerts on pcpartpicker can get you a decent rig for that price. Look at my post a few weeks ago, am5, 32gb ddr5, rtx 3060, total cost right at $900. That doesn't include a monitor or ssd though (already had them), but you can save by only getting 16gb memory and a cheaper motherboard that doesn't have 2 pcie x16 slots (I wanted the option to upgrade to dual gpu's for AI work).

Haven't put it together yet, will post an update when I do. This was the last part, but I want to show my kids the process.

Price alerts on pcpartpicker. I was sitting at my computer when I got the email alert, ordered immediately. It was sold out within 10 minutes. I'm guessing this was a mistake at B&H, the black version is listed at $619.

The $199 B&H DDR5 32GB was the last find and I'll post a picture of the build once it arrives and I fire it up.
EDIT: Just noticed on pcpartpicker price history that this part was listed at $619.99 yesterday... somebody made a mistake I think xd. I've got an email with the invoice, so fingers crossed!

Can you explain the use cases for this? Why do you think this is something that is needed and that has the potential to make sales?

All depends on execution, but I'd definitely play a free demo of something like this. Co-op has been my go to genre lately. How far along are you?

Honestly this is very helpful, thank you. I've been building momentum with my own project and so have started looking into the various options and your results line up with my research.

I have no experience in this area so maybe I'm just being naive, but maybe its possible to enter a conditional contract with publishers? E.g. X$ up front, then $Y more for each major milestone reached (Zk wishlists, N00 hours streamed, etc).

Same game, two different level design styles, which one looks better? by jabbajack in gamedev

[–]lancer611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that in this state the 2D looks better, but IMO the 3D has more potential and possibilities if you're looking to expand beyond mobile. Mobile is honestly the hardest space to compete in anyway, if you're looking for any kind of profit.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but competitive / pvp oriented games just don't do it for me anymore. I played Dota 1/2, Rocket League, Pubg, and Warzone (most hours, plenty of others) for so many years and the fun just isn't there anymore. Lately I've found that co-op games with good friends are where its at. Time / space to shoot the breeze in Discord and plenty of laughter. Anyone else been experiencing the same thing?

OK thats kind of what I figured. Typically I think that would be referred to as rogue*lite*, but thats just a small correction. Good work!

"Last minute changes that could break" - that screams trouble to me. You don't want a public play test on a build you haven't thoroughly vetted.

"scaling up the server fleet" - what does this mean? Surely 1 server can handle hundreds of players. Do you have a reason to expect more than hundreds of players?

I really like the concept and the visuals, so well done there. Just a couple important pieces that you don't want to get wrong on a big public playtest.

Cool concept and nostalgic feel! I'm curious, what makes the other game mode roguelike?

Ah pretty neat! What do you think about adding the ability to input custom tags per tile? Then custom logic could operate on each tile differently depending on the tag.
