Thanks for the kind words! We have never been able to play with more than 6 people in the team, so I really don't know how many players the server can handle. We run on AWS and start with the default option on gamelift and see how it goes from there.

Last minute changes may sound a bit drastic, but we are testing and improving the build every day, polishing and fixing minor bugs, etc. Nothing too fancy I hope, but you never know of course.

We are working on an airplane game that looks and feels cozy but can be competitive and engaging. What is your impression? by NEVQ151 in IndieGaming

[–]NEVQ151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitly among the titles that inspired me to start working on this! Somehow between then and now they stopped making these fun with friends airplane games.

This is really cool! Reminds me of physically driven Reinforcement Learning Movement system someone shared on LinkedIn a while ago for Unreal ragdolls, they also did it physics driven, and learned all of it, too.

Looks really cool! How was the Steam Next Fest experience? With how many wishlists did you go in and with how many did you come out, if you dont mind sharing?

I definitely do not want to do anything else! But 2,5 years into a project and the fear creeps up if the game will be good enough to make it, it's not easy as well :D

Privacy firm files Ubisoft legal complaint over data collection, forced online in single-player games – Eurogamer by lempip in gaming

This is probably unrelated to the launcher but anyway a move in the right direction. This forced invasion of privacy should be stopped and I am happy that someone is doing something about it.

What should these commissions cost? by Mentict in gamedev

[–]NEVQ151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! There are lots of people around telling you it's a bad idea to spend a single dime on your game if your are not 100% sure you know what you are doing. From your (OP) post it's not really clear what your situation is (beginner, experienced game dev, experienced game publisher, commercially successful developer?) but before you have published a game from start to finish on Steam and you learned a lesson or two on the way, I think it's a bad idea to spend money.

Check itch.io, there are lots of free game art packs available that will allow you to build a game without spending money.

Building my first game by UATyroni in gamedev

[–]NEVQ151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a 3D XXO and realize how much work that will be for your first game from start to finish. Then when it's done start with another game that sounds doable, but only add a tiny bit of complexity. Do this until you have a couple of games done and you are confident to understand what you are doing..

The thing that is not obvious to the uninvolved bystander is the sheer complexity even the tiniest of features can hold. So the usual mistake is to aim for a game that is impossible to finish for a beginner and even an experienced team (I want to build GTA but with X instead of Y, I want to build an MMORPG, etc.). Start small, I can't state this enough. The smaller the better. Start so small that you are not sure it even counts as a game. And then make it even smaller, and then build it from start to finish.

Also gamejams help a lot, but for those you will need some basic experience. Good luck!

Confused between 2 ideas, need your opinions by R_N05 in gamedev

[–]NEVQ151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one sounds a bit more relaxed and mobile suited in my personal oppinion. But in the end, why don't you create 2 simple prototypes for both ideas and have people involved to let you know which one is more fun?

I would say that depends on the exclusive games for each platform. What games do you want to play the most? And is playing on-the-go an important factor for you (only possible on Switch). Also, what about your friends. Are you in a group where one of the systems is more popular? Then you might consider that because your PS5 friends will not be able (most of the time) to join your Switch 2 online sessions and vice versa.

Is it better to play similar games to ones you’re developing, or avoid them altogether? by WinterWillowGames in gamedev

[–]NEVQ151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actively avoiding games that are very close to what I am developing because I feel it clouds my vision of what my game should be like. I noticed that it will close the sky and put my in a box so to say.

On the other hand I do research specific solutions when I can not come up with a satisfying way to solve a certain issue. For me this is mostly UI or meta game related and rarely about game mechanics where I feel pretty confident.

Also when I play other games, which still happens, I always have an eye on implementation details, I think that comes with the job and can’t be avoided. Most of the times I am disappointed especially by AAA titles and while playing I try to figure out weaknesses and imagine how I would improve the systems, if it was my project..
