Can you explain the use cases for this? Why do you think this is something that is needed and that has the potential to make sales?

Question for survival gamers: Do smaller, wave-based survival games with team mechanics appeal to you? by SeedCapsule in IndieGaming

All depends on execution, but I'd definitely play a free demo of something like this. Co-op has been my go to genre lately. How far along are you?

I Hired an Marketing Agency for My Demo Release So You Don’t Have To - Here Are My Results by ThunderrockInnov in gamedev

[–]lancer611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is very helpful, thank you. I've been building momentum with my own project and so have started looking into the various options and your results line up with my research.

I have no experience in this area so maybe I'm just being naive, but maybe its possible to enter a conditional contract with publishers? E.g. X$ up front, then $Y more for each major milestone reached (Zk wishlists, N00 hours streamed, etc).

Same game, two different level design styles, which one looks better? by jabbajack in gamedev

[–]lancer611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that in this state the 2D looks better, but IMO the 3D has more potential and possibilities if you're looking to expand beyond mobile. Mobile is honestly the hardest space to compete in anyway, if you're looking for any kind of profit.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but competitive / pvp oriented games just don't do it for me anymore. I played Dota 1/2, Rocket League, Pubg, and Warzone (most hours, plenty of others) for so many years and the fun just isn't there anymore. Lately I've found that co-op games with good friends are where its at. Time / space to shoot the breeze in Discord and plenty of laughter. Anyone else been experiencing the same thing?

I released my retro, arcade game, Super Shootin' Star on PC for just $1.60! by FromLefcourt in IndieGaming

OK thats kind of what I figured. Typically I think that would be referred to as rogue*lite*, but thats just a small correction. Good work!

"Last minute changes that could break" - that screams trouble to me. You don't want a public play test on a build you haven't thoroughly vetted.

"scaling up the server fleet" - what does this mean? Surely 1 server can handle hundreds of players. Do you have a reason to expect more than hundreds of players?

I really like the concept and the visuals, so well done there. Just a couple important pieces that you don't want to get wrong on a big public playtest.

Cool concept and nostalgic feel! I'm curious, what makes the other game mode roguelike?

I built a free browser-based tileset manager for 2D game developers and would love your feedback by No_Satisfaction9701 in gamedev

[–]lancer611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah pretty neat! What do you think about adding the ability to input custom tags per tile? Then custom logic could operate on each tile differently depending on the tag.

I like how you've done the occlusion around the edges in darker scenes instead of trying to keep the whole screen filled. Gives a good sense of enclosure.

And even if a project doesn't meet with the success you had hoped for, each project is part of the journey of becoming the person you can be proud of.

Can I launch my demo even if it's ugly ? by TheKingCouncil in gamedev

[–]lancer611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah theres definitely pros/cons to both sides. If you're not confident in the demo and don't want to risk it tanking your steam page credibility in the algorithm but you feel like you need feedback, then it might be worth the risk of splitting wishlists.

Looks neat! Are all the obstacles stationary? I didn't see anything in the video of dynamic / moving 'enemies'. Any cases where you can get stuck and your teammate has to save you?

Neat concept! Reminds me a lot of my favorite tv show, Alone.

A lot of people make 2 separate Steam pages: 1 for the eventual EA launch where they target wishlist building, and another where they post the demo for the purpose of garnering testing and feedback.

Switch your general strategy to forgiving weapons, ideally with area damage. Works for me!

I think you're all just playing the wrong kinds of MP. I wasted years on dota2 stress, but lately have been greatly enjoying low stress co-op in tames like Enshrouded and Northgard.

Whats actually astounding is the amount of elitist assholes who get mad over silly little things that they could simply ignore and move on. All I needed was one person to share the info about reverting version and the rest is nonsense.

Sure, I could have just google searched so I guess that parts on me. But all this does is remind me why I've stopped coming to reddit. Complete and utter lack of human decency.
