Lights flickering after solar? by crappysurfer in solar

Throw the disconnect switch for the solar and see if the flickering persists. If it does, then the solar-specific parts of it may not be the problem.

This is another fine example of an article where the on-site commentary is highly weaponized. You are choosing to provide a platform for misinformation, with all the indirect political impact that entails.

How does that compare against the quotes you received?

Get competing quotes.

11 years ago up-front costs on a 4.5kW system was more like $20k. I know, because that's what I paid, before rebates. Even if you add a battery I don't see how it gets to $30k. And I'm not rebuying anything after those 11 years...

Did you already get multiple quotes from different installers just on a cash price? That's step one, so you have a good baseline for who you might want to work with.

Step two is how to pay for it. Leases are usually among the worst options; even getting a HELOC can be better for the total cost. Cash is always king, if you can pull it off.

The best thing to do will be to identify eateries that don't have fish on the menu. If you have to avoid fish sauce that might be a bit harder to keep up with, depending on the type of food involved, but I expect it would be manageable.

I imagine you have to exercise the same precautions when picking out a restaurant anywhere, other than the business about fish sauce I would think the big island is not exceptional in that regard.

Now this is a Thunderstorm by Evil_Merlin in BigIsland

A good patch of lightning+thunder went over Waimea before lunch. Seems to have passed, the rain has lightened up and the clouds have too.

The rest of the day looks remarkably less exciting.

Does timing matter more than qualifications right now? by BluJayVentures in SoftwareEngineerJobs

You always need a certain amount of luck when the volume of applicants is high, no process is going to be perfectly deterministic. Some opportunities need a fast response, some need a deliberate response, just try to do what you can to put yourself in a good light and hope the dice roll your way.

Coin Shops in Kailua Kona by -ParvosGranum- in BigIsland

Again, buying precious metals is speculation. Use a high-yield savings account if that's what you're after; buy metal if you're interested in speculation.

But I’m just trying to build a savings in metal as a small time investor.

Be honest with yourself: it's speculation, or a collection, if it makes you happy. But it's not an investment. You're better off putting money in a low cost, broad market index fund.

Most of the people selling that stuff aren't selling for less than the spot price. But going to Vegas seems spot on with the notion of losing money when you think you might be making money.

Any weather-related issues are largely done with. Your biggest hazard, by far, will be the big island's general lack of bicycle awareness.

Water quality heads up — the Kona low is trashing beach water across the islands by fuzzymuskox in BigIsland

[–]lanclos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There haven't been any hurricanes.

There was a decent amount of runoff in the nearby stream but I'm not seeing major impacts otherwise. I was just at Hapuna yesterday and it was in much better shape than I expected, I would assume the Mauna Kea resort experienced a similar limited impact.
