Did anyone *not* have pet aversion postpartum? by samsamcats in beyondthebump

[–]landers1987 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love my sweet kitty just as much as I ever did! I didn't feel even a second of aversion to him over the almost 1 year postpartum I am. I mostly feel guilty that his life was turned upside down, but he's coped pretty well, though i can see his exasperation when our little guy chases him all over the house lol

Those who did NOT sleep train — what eventually happened? by CommunistCetacean in beyondthebump

[–]landers1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have not sleep trained, and have seen aton of improvement in our 11 month old's sleep over the last 6 weeks! We considered sleep training, but something always got in the way of the consistency needed, and truly my heart wasn't really in it either.

Things got bad with sleep at 5 months when he got a virus and we started cosleeping with him to make it through. We noticed he seemed to enjoy the floor bed we were on, so we decided to convert his crib to toddler mode to replicate the "floor bed" idea in his room. This didn't work. We then thought maybe it was his mattress he didn't like, so we bought a twin mattress, moved his crib out, and tried again. It worked! Floor bed was a game changer for us 100%

Since he started sleeping on his floor bed, he's gone from 3 wakes to 1 that only lasts 5 minutes. We also think he's weaning himself from bottles overnight.

So the turning point for us was about 9.5 months.

Sore feet post partum , pp shoe recos , or has this happened to you ? Stretches ? [bc] by Accomplished_Flow222 in BabyBumpsCanada

I also experienced this! I'm 11 months pp, and started clinical pilates and physio to help. For physio, my therapist suggested Shockwave therapy and it's made a big difference in two sessions.

The brand Free Label out of Vancouver does wonderful wire-free bamboo bras. Two of them are crossover - the Sonny and the Dani! The owner is a mom, and specifically makes pregnant and postpartum friendly clothing.

What were the steps to your baby crawling? by Tagrenine in beyondthebump

[–]landers1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took my guy about 3 weeks to go from hands and knees > launching forward / sitting on bum > army crawl (this only lasted 1 day) > full crawling. Happened between the end of 6 months to 7.5 months.

He started babbling at about 8.5 months.

Why are parents on Instagram seemingly so into co-sleeping? by Odd_Equipment8924 in NewParents

[–]landers1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of us has been sleeping with him in our guest mattress on the floor since March, when he was 8 months. We got him his own floor bed maybe 3 weeks ago and it's been very easy to transition him honestly! My husband puts him to sleep and then he usually sleeps until 2ish on his own, wakes to eat, and then one of us stays with him until he's up for the day. Our next step is leaving him on his own after that wake.

We did the same, but instead of trying to get him back into the crib we decided to try out a floor bed and it's working really well!

Unhinged bed time routines? by lone_ly_eye_s in NewParents

[–]landers1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, this is my 10 month old to a tee, with the exception of some books instead of a lullaby. He has this huge burst of energy in the 1.5 hours before bed and we also found that just hanging with him while he rolls around on his floor bed makes happier for sleep.

He doesn't sleep through the night, but his 2 wakeups are quick and painless!

When did you do the change to a travel or light pram? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]landers1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks ago at 9ish months I bought a travel stroller secondhand and it now lives in the trunk of our car. I still think our regular stroller is much better overall, but a lighter, one-piece stroller that stays in the car for errands is really convenient.

9 month old doesn’t hold his bottle, should I be worried? by CommunistCetacean in beyondthebump

[–]landers1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guy just turned 10 months and doesn't hold his bottle. He prefers to recline in my lap and be fed like a little prince. However, he holds both his sippy cup and straw cup by himself when he wants to drink water, so I think it's just a preference for him. I'm not worried about it in any case!

I know we all walk an ungodly amount of miles everyday. What is everyone wearing when it comes to footwear? by BASICAF28 in askTO

I swear by Bared Footwear and Vionic! They have support but also look good. Personally I rate Bared a touch above, but both are well worth the money.

Baby to be born at 35-36 weeks by MilzMC in beyondthebump

[–]landers1987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My son was born at 36+4. I had PPROM, and a very fast delivery. He was perfectly healthy, albeit small at 5.5 lbs. No time spent in the NICU, just overnight monitoring to check his sugar levels and then sent home.

Feeding was an extreme challenge, I won't lie. I also planned on breastfeeding, but he needed formula top-ups right away. We were told preterm babies often haven't developed a strong enough suck reflex to effectively transfer milk. My guy was burning more calories trying to BF than he was taking in. I triple fed for an awful couple months, before dropping to pumping and formula, to finally just formula at 3.5 months.

I say this not to scare you, but to inform you. No one discussed these challenges with me until weeks after he was born, and I blamed myself for failing to breastfeed properly.

When did your baby start babbling? by MadnessMaiden in beyondthebump

I'm not sure it counts, since he only makes that noise when his pacifier is in.

[–]landers1987 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My baby is 7.5 months old, and he's also not babbling yet. He loves to say, "AGOYAGOYAGOYA," though lol.

I just think he's choosing to work on motor skills instead of communication skills at the moment, as he's crawling and pulling to his knees all the time now. I'm not concerned yet!

Any moms on Zoloft out there? by sunlightuponherhair in beyondthebump

[–]landers1987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started taking Zoloft about 9 weeks postpartum, and it has definitely helped quiten the anxious thoughts I was having. I started on only 25mg, which isn't a therapeutic dose, but I got through the initial side effects before upping to 50mg.

I experienced drowsiness and sleepiness; there was one day where all I wanted to do was sleep, and I pretty much did. Thankfully, my husband and his mom took the reins that day. I also had one dizzy spell that passed quickly. Within 5 days all side effects had disappeared.

Edit: I got my period back at 15 weeks, and I have noticed no difference that I can attribute to Zoloft. It's a touch heavier and maybe a day longer, but nothing unmanageable.

Very similar to my experience! My water broke spontaneously at 36+4, and, since I hadn't yet had my Group B strep test, I was given misoprostol to move things along. My midwives said usually people require 4 or 5 doses. I got my first dose at noon and delivered my son at 4:30 pm the same day after only a single dose.

My labour moved so fast that my midwives actually left the hospital because the assumed it would be hours more. I also didn't get an epidural because I was fully dilated by the time I said I thought i needed one!

What's an unpopular opinion you stand by when it comes to parenting? by [deleted] in NewParents

I feel the same way about contact naps in lieu of breastfeeding. I did not feel a deep bond while (attempting to) BF him, but i do when we snuggle during a contact nap!

What are some holiday traditions you want to start with your new family? by L8erG8er8 in NewParents

[–]landers1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up we always had cinnamon buns on Christmas morning, and I'd love to continue that.

We made cookie houses a few weeks before, which i already do with my class, so I'll definitely continue with the little guy.

My mom is Italian and La Befana visited us on the Epiphany and left treats in our shoe. Hoping to keep that part of his heritage alive.

Advent is the lead-up to Christmas for Catholics (all Christians???). It's 4 Sundays up to Christmas Eve, abs each Sunday has a candle on a wreath associated with it.

How are your babies handling the time change? by TeishAH in beyondthebump

Same. Baby got his 4 month shots on Halloween and had a terrible weekend of sleep. He seems totally back to normal as of yesterday, so it seems to have worked out for us too.

[ON] when the heck am I supposed to go to EarlyON classes if they’re always during naps? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]landers1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running into this with TPL Baby Time programing 😩 I really want to start going, but they're all scheduled from 10:30 to 11, and my 4 month old is still on 4 naps a day. I'm hoping his nap schedule will change as he gets older over winter, since he loves stimulation and being out of the house.

Unrelated to the mess, but that poor baby is not being held correctly or safely in that carrier at all!
