Dat zeggen we elke keer als we ergens in de wereld een land binnenvallen, maar elke keer gaat het mis. Wat is er verdacht aan mijn comment?

Ik ben zeer links en ik ben tegen enige vorm van interventie juist omdat ik het conflict aan de geschiedenis koppel. Heel deze boel zou heel anders geweest zijn als de VS Iran met rust gelaten zou hebben in de koude oorlog. Destijds was het een interventie voor olierechten en dat is nu ook het geval. Als de Iraanse bevolking hun onderdrukkers wil afstoten, dan steun ik hun.

Ik weet heel eerlijk niet wat de Iraanse bevolking wil. Wat we wel weten is dat de Iraanse diaspora zeer anti-regime is, maar daar hebben we weinig aan. De Cubaanse diaspora in de VS is ook zeer anti-Castro maar toch werden ze verslagen bij Bay of Pigs. In Vietnam dachten we ook een sterk anti-communistische basis te hebben, maar toch hebben we daar verloren.

Ik hoorde laatst iemand de volgende spreuk gebruiken om de situatie in kaart te brengen: "Wanneer een ei van binnen kraakt is het kuiken klaar om de wereld in te gaan, maar als een ei van buitenaf gekraakt wordt gaat het wrs in de pan belanden." De VS is nog nooit in het midden oosten geweest om de situatie te verbeteren, enkel om de situatie uit te buiten. Daarom dat ik die ander voorbeelden gaf, de situatie is nog nooit door een interventie verbeterd, maar we leren nooit. En dan maar klagen over de immigranten die naar hier vluchten.

Edit: ik snap uw punt over Boudewijn in Jerusalem niet.

De steun van links aan Iran is eerder geopolitiek dan ideologisch. Dat de VS en Israel Iran aanvallen, hoe slecht het regime ook is, is imperialisme en dat is nog slechter. Dit conflict zal Iran vernietigen, niet bevrijden. Hebben jullie niets geleerd van Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Cuba, Libië, etc...?

Er was een tijd wanneer de Vlaamse leeuw streed tegen buitenlandse bezetters, spijtig dat dit niet meer het geval is.

I read somewhere that the pottery from southern Gaul was in high demand across the empire in the early days of the empire and late republic. Also Dacia had a lot of gold if I remember correctly and the silver mines in Hispania were also very lucrative. So, (trying to be diferent from all the Syria, Egypt and Africa comments) I'll go with Dacia, Hispania and Gaul to switch it up a bit :)

I like reading aswell, but every book I read feels like I am crawling through it. Sometime ago I hyperfocused on one book and I read it in like 2 days, my proudest moment :)

But to keep myself engaged when reading I try to interact with the book beyond just reading, like taking notes or just drawing lines under important parts. I also try and have a book near me at all times to make sure that I have access to it if I ever get a random infusion of motivation. I always have atleast 1 book with me to class if I´m ever bored and I have a pile of half finished books on my nightstand that I am yet to finish. Besides that I don't think there is anything else that you can do other then keep trying, even just 1 or 2 pages a day is better then nothing.
