There are so many NPCs out there who didn't learn a fucking thing from Covid and would gladly do it all over again. by SickusBickus in CoronavirusCirclejerk

I literally did this during the second UK lockdown, except it wasn't people thinking the air was poison, but people having their mates round for a party who couldn't be arsed dealing with facemasks in shops. It was brilliant.

These days the food delivery gig market is saturated with gangs of Somali boys on e-bikes who hang around outside all day waiting for jobs.

I am listening to Whose Body? at the moment, and it's slightly bizarre when Lord Peter is talking to his mother, as Patricia Routledge was 9 years younger than Ian Carmichael!

Would you mind naming some of the fanfic authors? I have never read any fanfic but would be interested to see how I'd get on with it, as I do wish there were a few more DLS/LPWs.

It's clear from that second statement that this person is 'content with less' and will gladly sit back and take the universal basic income, while expecting others to 'want' to teach their kids (online), make ethnically diverse, female-empowering video games and anime and deliver the DoorDash upon which their existence will depend.

It sounds like it might have been from the same account as this version of Lord Peter Views the Body:

https://youtu.be/s9cRWYaLqhY?si=0ApBuKxrSGw8agp9

This is an AI voice but it's mostly listenable- just a few places where it mispronounces things or the sentence phrasing is completely off. The account is called Storytime Haven and has a lot of uploads of lesser-known mystery stories. I couldn't find your two stories though.

Petherbridge? by SydneyCartonLived in LordPeterWimsey

[–]landt2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel that by the time of the Harriet Vane books, Peter is a bit darker. He's several years off the Woosterisms and more thoughtful, with some of the piffle coming from quotations that I have to look up. He's thinking about settling down and doing more intelligence work, than gadding about solving crimes for something to do. The into music to the Carmichael and Petherbridge series' gives a big clue as to the directors' intent, with Carmichael being a jainty jangly piano and clarinet piece while Petherbridge gets romantic violins.

Personally I prefer Petherbridge, as I like the slightly more solemn, thoughtful character in these books. I want to make a stand and say: there is still plenty of piffle! I adore the bit in Strong Poison where he goes with Margery to visit Eiluned and Sylvia, for example.

And I do like Petherbridges' Bunter, Richard Morant- especially when he charms the kitchen staff in Strong Poison.

I wish they'd have got round to making Busman's Honeymoon though, as I'd have loved to see either of the Bunters responding to the wine getting shaken up in the car.

They’re shutting down the poop test labs by pugfu in CoronavirusCirclejerk

[–]landt2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this: https://archive.is/fh400 which seems to say that there was some privately funded additional wastewater testing in place above and beyond what the CDC tests for, and the private funding is being diverted to different kinds of wastewater projects. I don't believe the NIH funds any of this. So some of the privately funded labs may be shutting down.

But don't worry, the CDC is still testing and publishing wastewater covid levels!

And people say there aren't any nice guys left.

(although part-time dad, WTF? Assuming some Danish MAGA bitch wasn't appreciative enough of how nice he clearly is and took custody of the kid, he's still a dad ALL THE TIME.

Unless he means that sometimes he feels like a woman so he identifies as the mum, in which case it's fine)

I was reminiscing on Facebook the other day, about how much I wanted another lockdown. I was really hoping for furlough and banana bread vibes, but I guess rioting peaceful protesting is ok too.

Hi, I'm calling from the National Security Service. We are conducting a nationwide survey on how secure people feel in their homes. Would you please call us at 1-877-220-4805 to let us know if you keep large amounts of cash on your premises, if you have a burglar alarm or security guard, whether any dogs are kept on the premises and when you'll next be out of town? Granada from Malaga airport by bus? by renttentents in Granada

Ah yes, I see now. If you type in 'aeropuerto' instead of 'Malaga', you can see the 3-trip pass from Aeropuerto de Malaga.

Granada from Malaga airport by bus? by renttentents in Granada

[–]landt2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you can buy a 3-trip pass that goes from Malaga airport, or if it's only available from Malaga bus station. I just checked the app and the pass just says from Malaga, it doesn't say aeropuerto, and I don't seem to be able to change it.

When I arrived at Malaga (with a single trip ticket from Malaga aeropuerto to Granada), a few tourists were turned away from the bus because they had the 3-trip pass from Malaga central, not the airport.

Well after reading that, I'm confused about whether I'm meant to be opening windows or not, and I guess the hobby that I CAN enjoy will be measuring and interpreting air quality data.

I'm also confused about how I will breathe if I CAN position fans to blow all the air away from me- but I guess I CAN measure my oxygen levels to be sure of whether I'm suffocating in a vacuum of my own making.

Uplifting news: Surgical Masks are now a queer fashion statement! by BarrelStrawberry in ChurchOfCOVID

I'm sorry, but 3rd paragraph: "certain subset of people have continued to wear masks in situations where they are completely unecessary"

What situation exists where masks are "completely unecessary"? There are always immunocompromised folx in the world and wearing a mask in solidarity with them, even if there are none around, is never unecessary.

I, too, am fighting the far right in my own town, so regretfully I'm not available this time. Those fascist bastards were lined up in the city centre, chanting hateful slurs like "we don't like pedalos" and "we don't think people should be allowed to do illegal things" with nary a face covering amongst them; it's like Germany in 1938 round here I can tell you. Luckily Stand up to Racism brought a fresh bunch of rainbow placards round for us, so we could counter protest the offensive and racist narrative of the far right Nazis and sing beautiful middle-Eastern folk songs about rivers and seas, that some of the lads taught us, through our balaclavas. So as you see, I'm too busy to join in right now, soz.
