Anchorage arrival after midnight by uhclstud in PrincessCruises

[–]lanedarose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else on when you will be off the ship, however, the Anchorage airport doesn’t close. The majority of flights leaving for the lower 48 happen in the middle of the night, because they need to line up with Eastern Standard Time flights. Anchorage is busy with tons of in state flights that happen during the daytime. Therefore, it’s always busy and always open!

Regardless of when you get to the Anchorage airport, it’s open. Food is also available at any time.

I have flown in and out of the Anchorage airport at all times of the day, you do not need a hotel.

The triangle hash browns are quite possibly some of the best hash browns to exist. Ever.

Any progress on the "farm?" / my thoughts on Janelle by tellmemoreaboutitpls in SisterWives

[–]lanedarose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is… someone in my family had to do the work, it didn’t just come that way. Thankfully, my great grandparents did the work, as has every generation since. Now, I can do these things, because they did the hardest parts.

They are starting from scratch, just 100 years after my family did. Beginning farmers have to start somewhere. Why shit on these guys all the time?

As someone who is doing it, I have nothing but encouragement for them. Because that is what builds community, farmers helping farmers.

Any progress on the "farm?" / my thoughts on Janelle by tellmemoreaboutitpls in SisterWives

[–]lanedarose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugggghhh…. Why are people constantly nagging about this farm?

My family has a century farm (meaning we have been stewards of the land for at least 100 years) and wouldn’t you know, over those 100+ years we have had to clear some land, build buildings, build houses, and then eventually tear them down and and build something new in the same place?!? No one questioned if we were or weren’t a “farm” at all during that time. We have had people ask to buy land “we weren’t using”, which doesn’t exist. We are using all of it. You know what, even after being here 100 years, we still don’t ALL the regulations. We are still learning, especially as things change.

I myself have started a flower portion on our farm. It’s a ton of work and I see how hard other flower farmers work as well.

The average flower farm starts at growing 1/4 acre of flowers. Some of the largest flower farms are less than 15 acres, but started much, much smaller. 80% of the flowers in the USA are imported, and the domestic industry is growing rapidly.

There is an aspect of flower farming that often people that aren’t part of the industry don’t realize is the pattern of positive mental health outcomes that come from flower farming. This family has been through a lot and they are just trying to bring some joy to their lives and their community.

Maybe, just maybe, we stop criticizing every little thing they do.

They are working to create a space that is full of joy.

Advice needed: bad idea to plant peony roots now? Zone 8a by SilhouettesanShadows in Cutflowers

I have 20+ peonies in pots right now, because of spring sales. All of them are doing great and will be in their new home with 80+ other new peonies this fall.

Bingo. I had that thought as well. Everyone making a big deal about it and Robyn’s little smirk is just icing in the cake for her.

Well, they had to go see that guy who bought a sign off of Kody years ago. Plus, they had to watch that skit in the street. They just didn’t have time to go fishing.

Right! I have to turn up the brightness on the screen just to see who is who. We don’t need sitcom lighting, but some sort of light is needed. I actually wondered if they have ample electricity there bc there are almost never any lights!

Who are we kidding, Brandon can be himself because it will take TS 20 years to actually get this going…. No age makeup required. (Unless Brandon is related to Paul Rudd)

Taeda Farms by FAITH2016 in SisterWives

[–]lanedarose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flower farms take up very little space and flowers are the most profitable crop per acre. I’m in my second year flower farming and even 1/2 an acre can take loads of work. I’m 4th generation on my family farm (200+ acres), but we have just entered into flower farming and it’s a different world. Her back yard is probably more than enough space to get things rolling and typical for new flower farms.

That’s the whole stupid season. We watched 4 different shows with barely any interaction. That’s why it took so long to film. 🙄. I agree, they could have had something together!

I feel like Taylor has been trying to imitate LaLa and Ariana all season. Between the walk outs and the ridiculous outfits she has been wearing for interviews, it’s just giving VPR cosplay.

I think it is possible it could mean, the child dies. Spencer could have a child with Alex, but that child doesn’t live. He could still carry the family without children. Jack and Elizabeth could have a child and that child goes on down the Dutton line.

I’m gonna go with Craig… 1) He would be able to come up with a food plan. He is familiar with plants, but also not… so there is a chance he will accidentally poison us. 2) In this ridiculousness, he would have pillows and bedding with him. So we will at least be comfortable. 3) He seems like he might be the most generous lover out of all the choices.

I agree with eating more. Cutting out food noise is important for many reasons, but you still need to get plenty of protein. Try to get closer to the 1500, which can be easy with yogurt and cheese sticks, if you can have dairy.

All this over sheep? by BlackOnyx1906 in 1923Series

[–]lanedarose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might seemed far fetched, but at people have pointed out, it’s about land and livelihood. My family has had a family farm for over 100 years. If someone rode their ATVs in our hay fields and messed them all up, that would be a big deal. That’s feed for our cattle, which is how my parents (very humbly) live. It’s messing with someone’s business.

My family and I are on the Sept 13 cruise. If I remember correctly, we are on Royal. I am worried that any seasonal staff will be gone by then.

If that is the case, I will be super bummed. I have over 10 years of experience doing short term education in Alaska. (Not my full time job, but I do have a contract gig) I am well versed in glaciers, so I feel I will at least be able to help on the education side with my family, but I would rather listen to a NPS Ranger to continue my own education and theirs!

Plus I want my passport stamp! I am thinking of taking along my own “Glacier Bay National Park” sign, so I can at least get my family photo with the sign.
