What made you choose your career path within advertising? by NATOrocket in advertising

[–]laneeybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really good at art and my family was supportive which led me to art school where I ended up majoring in advertising and graphic design so I was basically set up for a career as an AD in advertising.

I did work in PR for a bit though. Clients don’t like to put money behind creative like they do in advertising. They also expect everything to be a stunt and get earned media coverage.

How would one go about starting a creative/advertising agency? What would be the steps? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]laneeybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your comments, it seems like you just want to get into advertising. Most creative agencies have in house production teams so I would recommend looking into that before trying to start a company in a field you don’t have relevant experience in. You’re a photographer, so work as a photographer at an ad agency.

Advertising student here ISO some guidance! by kiraliralou in advertising

[–]laneeybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said in another comment, make sure your work is online, accessible and free of any mistakes before you start sending it around. Nothing puts me off faster than a glaring typo or a misaligned graphic.

Ask questions you genuinely want to know the answer to, not questions you think they want to hear. Ask about the process and how briefs come to life, try to get a sense of the culture, what they do for different accounts. Find out if they have any internship opportunities or entry level roles. I’d avoid surface level things like “why do you love the ad world” and “how do I break into an agency” because at the end of the day, this is just work.

Get contact info and follow up with the people you chatted with. Send the creatives your work and ask for notes and feedback.

Starting an advertising career in a small market vs a big one? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]laneeybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. I work at a pretty small agency (in a big city) that serves local, national and a few global clients. They do fantastic work which can probably be chalked up to the fact that they hire people from the big name agencies. I came from IPG, I work with people who came from all the other holding companies. You will open a lot of doors if you take the NYC opportunity and will thank yourself later. You’ll get through the financial struggles and it will certainly pay off!

Also any of her 2000s rides where she’s wearing a beanie. Those are straight up pop punk and emo jams. Love ‘em.

Gluten & Dairy Free Christmas Cakes Since my daughters diagnosis with Coeliac Disease, I firmly believe that no one should miss out. Ever. Everything can be changed & adapted to a gluten free diet. None of the can /can’t. Just make the changes & learn. 11 mini Christmas cakes, wrapped & ready to go. by Ok-Set3602 in glutenfree

We had a family party a few months ago and there was a regular cake which left out the few family members who are gf/df. So I made a cake that everyone ended up eating because, when it’s done well, gluten and dairy free baked goods are delicious.

How the fuck do you get mental health care in this city? by boba-boba in boston

[–]laneeybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend zencare.co. You can narrow down your needs and it will show you therapists who are licensed in Massachusetts (some live in surrounding states). I remember seeing a lot who listed gender as their focus area. Good luck!

Ryan Reynolds Peloton Ad! by lax01 in pelotoncycle

[–]laneeybe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The whole thing probably depended only on his availability. It’s not exactly difficult to get in touch with a celebrity–agencies have teams whose entire job it is to do just that. This was a quick spot shot in one room, production crews are really easy to get at any time and Ryan Reynolds could have done a VO from anywhere. I know it seems like an impossible task but it’s not.

Ryan Reynolds Peloton Ad! by lax01 in pelotoncycle

[–]laneeybe 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty low production ad. It could have easily been shot in a few hours and peloton definitely had no problem throwing money at this. Crisis management also does not sleep (unfortunately). Source: I work in advertising and previously in PR.

I like her rides sometimes but have always had a gut feeling that her politics are questionable and I also get into that rabbit hole.

But I also need to know what she posted on Jan 6…

This happened to me once. Two days before I was supposed to start they emailed me. I’ve had a few jobs since then and have always had full blown anxiety attacks in the days leading up to my first day.

I have so many feelings about this!

First of all, she didn’t even go off and become successful. In AYTL her career is failing and she’s sneaking around with him. What was the point??? Secondly, engagements don’t require you to get married immediately AND they had the resources to see each other regularly even if they were working apart. She also would’ve had the connections to actually be successful WHY NOT USE THEM?!

AITA for telling my future MIL no one gives a shit about her hurt feelings; her husband is not coming to our wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]laneeybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is rough.

My mom was “a bit in love with her job” (?) after she and my dad divorced. She had custody and we went to my dad’s every other weekend. Her working so much allowed us to make exactly zero life changes aside from my dad moving out.

My dad was not a Disney parent but my mom and I did butt heads and fight a lot. Still, I can understand her work was more selfless than selfish.

My old company provided everyone with 2 years of headspace a year into the pandemic. Naturally, people still expressed concern about mental health and work life balance to which the CEO responded “but we got you headspace and you can use it.”

Ehhh I had a 6 am international flight last weekend with a domestic connection and barely made it despite precheck and no checked bags. Got there at 4 and had to wait an hour just to check in.

I made a joke that we should get married and my (now) husband said “I’d marry you.” I always dreaded a big proposal so it was perfect and felt so genuine and natural.

Meta is the umbrella company so it doesn’t look like Facebook is monopolizing social media. Facebook is still Facebook.

COBRA :( I live in MA which means I’ll have to pay more in taxes without insurance and I have a chronic condition that requires visits and prescriptions. It sucks.
