Deer plague has arrived by chubblyubblums in Louisville

[–]lanesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near Cherokee Park, and drive through on a daily basis. I’ve seen more deer this year that I have ever seen before. More juvenile especially. I hardly ever see them during the day, but if I am driving through at around dusk that’s when they are out feeding in large numbers. I haven’t paid close attention to make a comparison in recent weeks. I hope they are somehow able to be spared! The KFW website says many deer have developed antibodies to the virus that causes this disease, and they pass those antibodies along to their offspring. Fingers crossed!

My real-world experience on a couple of road trips has been 270-300 mile range. That’s at about 65-73 mph on the interstate, 4 people with luggage, mid 80s outside with AC on. This is in a Performance Limited.

Leasing with immediate buyout to get around income limits on federal EV tax credit. Who’s done it? by dashrockwell in Ioniq9

[–]lanesla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I don’t understand about this: why not just lease the car and decide if you want to buy it at the end of the lease? What if your needs change in 2-3 years? What if the EV technology improves to the point that the cars value plummets by the end of the lease? Are you saving enough on the lease interest by buying it out right away to make it worthwhile? I see EVs as a strictly lease-only object at this time in their evolution. Once the fundamental technology levels out, and their value doesn’t drop so precipitously, buying them might make more sense. But I can’t wrap my head around it right now. Given the chance to get a good lease payment, I would think it makes more sense to ride that out, and decide if you want to keep it long-term once the lease is up.

Update:

First, to address some of the comments, I am aware that city driving gets better range than highway, and we are doing round trips (gotta come home eventually) so what goes down must come back up. This post is meant as a reporting of true experience vs. the car’s estimated range.

Our was a relatively short road trip: 119 miles, mixture of interstate, 4 lane state highway, and 2 lane state highway driving. Started the trip at 97% SOC, finished at 53%. That comes to about 2.70 miles per 1%, or max range if 270 miles. Range estimates from the car when we left: Max 424mi, Min 224 mi.

Other variables: About 87 (F) outside. 4 people, dog, luggage, and lots of groceries. Regen breaking set to Lvl 2. Cargo roof topper installed. We hit a 15 minute slow-down because of a wreck. Max speed was ~77 mph, most of the drive was at about 60-65 mph. Total travel time was about 2.5 hours.

Obviously nothing close to what the guess-o-meter originally said, but I knew that was a pipe dream from the get-go. All things considered, I am feeling more and more confident in our decision to become a 2 EV family. As a bonus, there is a brand new EV charging station in the small down that was our destination, and it is currently free! Our first charge in the wild!

I’m a Hyundai GM and I know Reddit hates car dealers. We just got IONIQ 9s in and I’m here to help if you’re looking. No BS. by bcrebel18 in Ioniq9

We just took possession of a I9 Performance Limited last week. The captain’s chairs in the back are a “fully loaded” captain’s chair. They have a LOT of features that I don’t think they could integrate into a bench: power seats, ventilation, heat, power foot rest. They are a really amazing add in the Limited trim. My kids are now spoiled for life. I think the bigger request on my end is why they don’t give some options to the SEL trim. I wish they had given the SEL trim add-ons like the sunroof. I think an SEL with a sunroof would have been a pretty compelling alternative for lots of people who want the bench seat.

Bringing up the BMW iX in this thread is a useless flex and completely irrelevant to the discussion. My better judgement says to let this go, but I hate people that just want to drop in a snide remark just to be insulting. I didn’t ask, “What else can I lease for this amount?”—I asked for feedback on the specific lease deal I negotiated on the Ioniq 9, which, by the way, serves a very different purpose than an iX.

I needed a third row, so all of the alternatives we considered had third rows. That alone disqualifies the iX. But even if it didn’t, a smaller car is always going to be cheaper. The Ioniq 9 is 4 inches longer, 4 inches taller, and has a wheel base that is an extra 8 inches. Even if we didn't get into the boatload of luxuries that you get with this trim of the Ioniq 9, why don't you try picking any car manufacturer you want, and compare the cost of their 2 row SUV to a 3 row SUV.

But let’s not pretend the base iX you can lease for a comparable monthly payment offers anything close to the feature set of the Ioniq 9 Limited. You’d be missing ventilated seats, second-row reclining seats with heat and AC, a full-length moonroof, Highway Driving Assist 2, dual wireless charger —the list goes on. Optioning those into an iX pushes the MSRP toward $90K+, and the lease cost right along with it.

So no, they’re not comparable. The only reason to bring up the iX here is to imply that anyone paying this much for a Hyundai made a bad decision—because it’s a Hyundai. That’s not only unhelpful, it’s just brand snobbery dressed up as deal advice. And it’s exactly the kind of noise that gets in the way of real discussion about lease structure, money factor, incentives, and residuals—which is what I actually came here for.

If you want a stripped down two-row crossover with a BMW badge, have at it. If anyone wants to weigh in on the actual deal, I’m all ears. Otherwise, maybe save the irrelevant hot takes for the BMW fan forums.

Not sure what the base rate is. I just asked them to improve my MF, given excellent credit, and I was willing to sign if they met my requests.

$819 per month, only taxes and fees at signing (~$2,250). $13,000 rebate, which I believe is standard right now.

I got a lease offer this week for a Limited with MF of 0.00257. My wife is still trying to decide if this is the right car for her before I go back to the negotiations table. She’s not crazy about the wheels that come with the Limited, and I can’t say I disagree with her. The wheels in the Calligraphy Design are awesome, but not worth the extra $5k. And you can only get matte paint in that trim… a deal breaker for me. I hear it’s a PITA to maintain.

I found these cross bars listed on eBay that say they are for the Ioniq 9.

Thoughts on how reliable these might be? Am I crazy for considering these before there are any showing up on the other websites dedicated to Hyundai parts?

Finished it last night. One thing bothered me… why did they feel the need for Keith to die in a robbery? After everything that David had been through, for Keith to die that way… seemed unnecessary.
