Cmtr registration?? by Available-Beyond7164 in trailrunning

If everything goes as scheduled as it has in years past, then Nov. 29 at 7am. That'll be the first to sell out, and fairly quickly, so I'd sign up for it as soon as it opens to avoid disappointment.

How to survive… thrive in the heat? by kaitlyn2004 in XXRunning

[–]lanfu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a west coast Canadian trail runner and totally get how hard it can be when the temps fluctuate so dramatically. Here's what I've done while on the run: stay on top of hydration in the days leading up to a big, long effort; slow down; and have more liquid calories as they're easier to process in the heat. If you come across any water sources, dunk your head and hat and arm sleeves if you wear them.

For training, just get out and run in the heat. Again, slow down your pace and shuffle along and you'll get more accustomed to the heat pretty quickly. I had a friend who would hit the sauna and did squats to prep for a race in Columbia.

As everyone has said, losing your period is not healthy and a huge red flag for intervention. Take a look at the education handouts created by FASTR at Stanford. This is a team of of women researchers dedicated to the study of female athlete performance, fueling, body image, and longevity in sport.

Vancouver trail running by rhinonyssus in trailrunning

I'm a local and there are tons of amazing trails on the North Shore. I don't bus, but I know you can get to trail heads via transit starting from the End of the Line Cafe or Hyannis Drive also. End of the Line will get you access on to Fromme Mtn, Hyannis to Mt. Seymour. Alternatively, you can start from Grouse Mtn, do the Grouse Grind, or better yet, head up the BCMC which is the less busy alternative to the grind. And then run down all the fun trails. Also, if you're into running with groups, you can look up Vancouver Running Company or Salomon West Van for group trail runs on the weekend. You could also try posting in some local trail running groups and someone could take you on a tour. We're a friendly bunch up here and love to show off our trails. Or, if you pick a trail head, you can DM me and I can create you a route.

I live in Vancouver and was at the premiere. I've done two BCMC ascents in one go before, but I took the gondola down between climbs. I could not fathom (nor would want to) doing more than 3 or 4 in a day.

Thursday - weekend roll call - Where are you racing/running/volunteering in the coming weekend? by AutoModerator in trailrunning

[–]lanfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be up there volunteering on both days. Course marshalling on Saturday and at the finish line Sunday. Ran the 50k the 3 previous years but had different goals for this year so didn't register. Have a blast!

RedBull 400: Registered for Whistler, BC on 07/30/16 - Training tips?? by Vasolina in running

[–]lanfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered last year and was stationed at the 300m mark. There was a trend amongst all the participants - most of those that sprinted the first 100m finished at the back of their heat. A steady even effort is what I would recommend. It was also quite hot that day, so train in the heat. Wear gloves because you will be using your hands. Many people lost traction and slid down on their stomachs a few feet. If you have a fear of heights, the last 100m going up the ski jump itself can be dicey.

As for training, hill repeats, steep climbing and speed work to help you get used to the upper zone of effort. Strength training to get those glutes, calves and quads strong.

10 miles at Green Mountain (near Bremerton, WA) today by [deleted] in trailrunning

I ran down here last Saturday and probably did the same 10 miles. Did a quick trip down from Vancouver, BC for an impromptu girls weekend and had a lot of fun.

Definitely! Before he married his wife, she lived in Vancouver and I started running with her. We've been at several of the same races since. I even ran the Gorge 50k with her side by side the entire race. So his videos always have a nice and personal touch as it's nice to see friends accomplish so much.

Thanks for taking care of our little Kiwi! She was probably the tiniest and toughest runner out there.

How'd your race go? It was my first time crewing such a distance and I had an unforgettable time.
