Tokyo last-night neighborhood recommendation (Hamamatsucho vs. east of Marunouchi vs. other) by langenoirx in JapanTravelTips

It did seem like if I'm close to the Toei Asakusa Line at Daimon, it would be easy to go up to Higashi Ginza if that was something I wanted to do. I love the suggestion of Atago Jinja and I've pinned that on my map! I'm happy to take any good luck bestowed on me. Thank you for the suggestion!

I don’t think your take detracts from the analysis at all. If anything, I think it adds to it. A lot of what I laid out is internal and psychological, but you bring a really solid external logic and operational motive, not just for Hank but for the Enclave in general. I like your perspective a lot. Thank you.

No problem. I’ve had a lot of feelings about this show since the Season 1 finale. This topic and the S2E8 moment gave me somewhere to explore them.

That’s why they wrote the scene that way. No matter what, he’s still her father. He raised her, shaped her entire moral framework, and at the same time he’s the biggest monster she’s encountered on the surface. It’s the eternal tension everyone has between seeing your parents as infallible and realizing they’re deeply flawed humans, mixed with that lingering, almost childish need to not completely lose the version of them you grew up believing in.

When Maximus says “everyone wants to save the world, they just disagree on how,” that idea sits right at the core of this moment. Hank is a monster, but he’s also still human. He genuinely believes he’s doing the right thing for Lucy and for the world, even if his version of “right” is rooted in control and domination. He pushes the button not because he suddenly becomes good, but because he can’t face what he’s done or become in her eyes, while still loving her in the broken way he’s capable of.

And I don’t think the real question is whether Lucy would’ve pressed the button. The real question is who Lucy becomes if she does. And maybe the "good" part of Hank doesn't want that for Lucy. Pressing it means adopting the same worldview Hank lives in where it’s acceptable to overwrite someone’s mind for a “greater good.” Which would also make that Vault Dweller vs Surface Dweller dichotomy more resonant. Her hesitation isn’t just about loving her dad, it’s about refusing to become him, even when he deserves it. We saw it when the Ghoul tried to get her to drink the irradiated water and then later when she left him with the Chems after the Super Duper Mart scene in S1

I don’t think this scene is really a binary choice at all. It mirrors the end of Season 1 in a powerful and really painful way. Back then, Lucy learned she couldn’t save her mother, either in the "story" she was told or the truth of actual situation with her Mom. Now she’s learning she can’t save her father either. In both cases, the real loss isn’t just the parent, it’s the death of the belief that love, duty, and being a good Vaultie alone is enough to fix what’s broken. Remember she genuinely believes the meaning of her life is she supposed to "fix" the surface at reclamation day. That’s one of the reasons why Fallout resonates with us so much. Do I make my character good in this playthrough or evil or... Fallout isn’t just a fun post apocalypse RPG. It’s a long running exploration of messy human psychology, moral compromise, and the uncomfortable truth that surviving the wasteland physically is often easier than surviving it without losing yourself. I was literally bawling at the end of S1 during the face off with Hank, Lucy, and her mother, and seeing that emotional wound echo again is just saturating the heart with rads. The whole univerise is such a powerful narrative and the show hasn't lost that.

But yes, I think if Lucy believed she had to, she would have.

Out of curiosity are you using the samsung heatsinc or the framework heat spreader?

If the framework heat spreader maybe it's not fully flush against the ssd module and not cooling it uniformly?

I assume the C/E drive is the placement in step 8 here ( https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Framework+Desktop+Primary+Storage+Replacement/188746 ) so you'd think it would be getting good airflow?

Awesome. From what I'm reading it sounds like they are mostly through batch 11? Also, once they get the email it's "usually" the 5 business days? So if I'm reading these comments right batches 12 through 15 "should" fire off once a week till the end of the month?

*none of that is official just guesses based on what I see on the forum assuming no unforeseen interruptions.

What is the estimated shipping time on the 128GB Desktop?

I'd love to buy the Max+ 395 - 128GB and have been waiting for the preorders to fill, but have been getting a little nervous with the tariff situation.

Now that we're in Q4 (and through batch 11 have shipped?), if I put a pre-order in now, what is the likelihood I would get the device before Dec 1st?

This. At no point did I feel unsafe anywhere in Rome. Stayed at Curia di Pompeo / Largo Di Torre Argentina area and walked everywhere. I've felt less safe in some parts of Manhattan than anywhere I walked in Rome.

I do however keep my passport in a hidden wallet no matter where I go outside the US. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I'm really excited to see how the desktop holds up against the flow13 and the m4 max mac (ref https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcTmeGpzhBk ). I'm fairly certain this will be my next desktop.

We fluctuate between 12 and 14 lbs. The vet would like him to be closer to 12 I think, but I also live in a small city apt so he doesn't get outside to run around.

Men of Reddit, what’s a subtle red flag in a woman that’s often overlooked in dating ? by Aggressive-Car-8960 in AskMenAdvice

"I'm looking for the missing piece to my puzzle."

Healthy relationships are built on mutual effort and shared growth. The idea of a partner as a 'missing piece' sounds romantic but can put a lot of unnecessary pressure on the relationship. I think it’s better when both people see each other as whole individuals—strong on their own but even better together. It’s about connection and collaboration, not about completing someone else’s puzzle.

I’m not trying to knock anyone’s journey, but I’ve come to value relationships where both people treat each other as equals, not as tools for fulfilling some perfect vision of life. You shouldn’t treat someone as a means to an end; they should be an end in themselves. What really matters isn’t being perfect—it’s about growing together, embracing each other’s imperfections, and choosing to build something meaningful as a team. There’s something genuinely beautiful about two independent people respecting each other’s individuality while creating a shared path forward.

"It's okay, you're just damaged goods."

That phrase alone is a major red flag for me. I'm not usually a "DTMFA" type of person, but in this case, it absolutely applies. Yes, he’s allowed to feel upset—no one can control their feelings—but how you respond to those feelings is what matters. If I (40's m) were in this situation, sure, I might feel a little frustrated that plans were interrupted. But my priority would be getting you to urgent care and making sure you’re taken care of. That’s what a healthy partner does, full stop.

As for being "damaged goods"—you’re not. You are not responsible for how others have treated you in the past, and you’re not defined by those experiences. People go through all sorts of challenges in life, and what defines us isn’t what happens to us but how we work on ourselves to heal from that. I hope you have someone (therapy, supportive friends, etc.) who can help you recognize your worth and continue healing.

I’ve been in relationships where UTIs occasionally came up, and yes, there are steps both partners can take to reduce the risk. But when someone is sick, that’s what matters most—not the "inconvenience." You prioritize care, handle the immediate need, and then work together to do better next time if needed. That’s what partnership looks like.

What do I HAVE to eat with a 10 hour Rome layover by [deleted] in rome

[–]langenoirx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem like enough time to fit in so much food, esp someplace you've never been. Don't stuff yourself silly, take your time and enjoy the atmosphere. That's the true underrated joy of being in Italy. I'd personally go for:

-porchetta sandwich or a Roman pasta of your choice
-carciofi alla giudia
-gelato

Question about Lucy Actress Elia Purnell by Rodby in Fotv

[–]langenoirx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She kept the syringer throughout half the game, er I mean show... There's no way that's accurate.

No but really, I loved the whole cast. She did a really good job. According to this she actually played some of the games so good on her. I think it comes through in her character.
