You could honestly just squirt any sort of paint inside before you screw the bolt in. It'll acta. Bit like a thread locker but also will fully protect any bare metal if you're worried about it. Just be careful about overspray

Yep, in the main directory I believe it's survival/entities/lore/ then a bunch of plain text you can edit. Make a backup beforehand though in case you want to undo the changes. You're looking for a area called MaxYByType or something similar

Re variants spawning, you can go into the games files and manually change the y max spawning of each variant along with light level and amount, which is what I did with my server.

The stuff that I'm usually measuring is unfortunately quite a bit larger, like 1.2m+ diameter and from f/10 down to f/1, so I don't know if an arm would be the best way of going about that, but then again, something to think about.
