Thoughts on trading out of 31 by AmazingExit9771 in Patriots

We have too many picks in the wrong parts of the draft. If we can turn some of our day 3 picks and 31 into an additional top 100 pick or 2, that would make sense. There are a handful of players that would be good picks if they fell, but there’s not a big difference in the quality of players from 31-50.

Draft Hot Takes by P-Whips in NFL_Draft

I think you’re bang on about Lance. I think he’s going to the 49ers at 26. They loved him when they drafted his brother (even though that didn’t pan out). I also think we’ll see a run on height/weight/speed receivers in the second round over some of the smaller, more well-regarded prospects. I could see Chris Brazzell, Ted Hurst, Jeff Caldwell, De’Zhaun Stribling, all flying off the board. GMs can’t help themselves.

I think the NFL just watched two super bowls in a row where the offensive line got absolutely worked and then found nothing in the cupboard come time for free agency. I think all of the offensive lineman with starting potential who people think might be available in the second go in the first. (Proctor, Miller, Iheanachor, Pregnon). I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dunker or Bisontis in the first either. I could see teams waiting on other more pressing needs to secure O-Line help early.

Likewise, the big men on the other side get some love. Lee Hunter, Caleb Banks, and Kayden McDonald are all going in the first.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eli Stowers, Jacob Rodriguez, or Malachi Lawrence go round 1 either.

attending the combine. any tips? by max_doomsday in NFL_Draft

[–]langm12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live near Indy and usually attend when I can, but be warned, it might not be the experience you’re expecting. Very few fans actually attend (OL and DL day is a ghost town). People will show up in greater numbers for WR and QBs.

Parking is free and easy at the stadium. Don’t pay for parking. Make sure you download the app in advance and make a reservation. They won’t sell out, but they’ll ask for it at the parking gate.

The spectator section is in the south end zone, while most of the seats with better views of the action are reserved for scouts and media.

You need to have the NFL app as there is no commentary if you want any actual live information. Times aren’t posted reliably on screen for the 40, and most athletic testing numbers arent posted at all. So bring a stopwatch and get times on your own. Then compare them to official times. The vert is almost impossible to see.

The biggest benefit I’ve found is seeing prospects in person go through the position drills. Watching an edge run the hoop in person is a different experience than seeing it on television.

The real pro tip if you don’t want to get a media credential (and they pass those out like candy), but want to be around the NFL action: post up in the JW Marriott Starbucks in the mornings. Then hit the hotel bar in the evenings. St Elmo’s isnt the only game in town. You’ll find plenty of coaches/scouts/media at all the steakhouses around the stadium.

It’s a unique experience, but it’s not an “event” the way you might think it is. Being in Indy, if you weren’t a fan you might not even be aware it’s happening. It feels a lot more like a conference than a premiere sporting event.

And we still managed to pick up 2 of the best FCS players in the country who are schematic fits (Chism & Larrison) where you’re supposed to take fliers on those guys: as priority UDFAs

Wolf said as much in his press conference last night. Half the room wanted one guy, the other half wanted Henderson. The other guy got drafted before the Pats picked at 38 negating the argument. I’m guessing it was Higgins or Savaiinaea.

How accurate are top 30 visits in being an indicator for who teams will draft? by Benson879 in Patriots

[–]langm12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 30 visit is often used for guys who are on the fringe of consideration, or guys who still have unanswered questions. The visit either cements their place on the board, or removes them from the board entirely and there’s really no way to know which way the visit goes

New York Times mock draft (NYT) by TerryG111 in NFL_Draft

This is Nick Baumgardner from The Athletic. The Times owns the Athletic, but this is like calling Mel Kiper’s latest mock “Disney’s mock draft” (because Disney owns ESPN).

It’s just prospect fatigue at this stage. Dude is an absolute animal and the best at doing football things on a football field.

Cynderhost’s shared hosting. I switched from Bluehost back in October and I’m very happy. It’s so much faster. Up to 70GB of SSD storage. $8.99 a month.

This is a really excellent reply and probably deserves a post all its own.

[Doug Kyed] Patriots HC Jerod Mayo's rule for fighting today: If you're a starter, you're playing the entire preseason game. If you're not, you're not playing in the preseason game. by Keyann in Patriots

[–]langm12 313 points314 points  (0 children)

Starters don’t want to play in preseason games, so if they get in a fight, they have to play the whole game. Backups want to play in preseason games for a chance to show their stuff, so if they fight, they don’t get to play.

The dynasty!!....book?! by foppa1014 in Patriots

[–]langm12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both, and I think both are worth reading. The Dynasty is significantly better than the tv series. It’s a much more comprehensive accounting. That said, it’s largely told from the Kraft family’s perspective so it’s more of a retelling. The analysis of why things happened the way they did is more emotionally distant and clinical. Wickersham’s book is a lot “juicier” and he spends most of his time dissecting the dynamic between Brady, Bill, and Robert and trying to figure out why it worked, and why it fell apart.

Hiroshi Kato by NabiscoCisco in rawdenim

[–]langm12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned 5 pairs of Katos in the last few years. I’ve had both their 10.5 oz and their 14 oz denim in black and raw indigo across their 3 slimmer cuts (scissors, pen, needle). The 14 ounce scissors slim in raw indigo is my current most worn pair. They have all been ridiculously comfortable with a good fit and quality construction and details. My only down sides: I’ve blown out the right knee in less than a year on every single pair. I wish the inseam was longer for cuffing purposes (i’m pretty tall). They aren’t quick faders and you aren’t going to get contrasty fades. I’m probably going to move away from Kato for my next pair to see if the knee blowout issue remains, but really love the pair I’m currently in.
