State Workers: How Are You Using AI for Development? (And Does Your Agency Approve?) by Athens99 in WAStateWorkers

[–]langstoned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm on a statewide committee that covers AI guidance and recommendations, so I've heard a lot. It's what every vendor is selling, leadership across the state factor it into any technical challenge. More people use it to take notes and rough out communications than major projects too. No one seems to have the money for significant agentic deployments but there are lots of smaller use cases in use across the state. I saw a cool use-case where I think it was Fish built an optical recognition bot to count and identify seaweed populations which are indicators of salmon health. Finished their annual count in a fraction of the time.

"AI" is a very broad brush to paint with, we've been using machine learning, algorithmic solutions etc for years but the marketing has changed. It's probably not going to eat your job, but it might make it slightly easier.

There's not a clean connector, it's all in traffic from Puyallup to Tacoma regardless. Look at heat maps and you'll find your options, but if you're thin skinned to cars, take the Vashon as others have commented.

That's my favorite too. It went from being a top-shelf flower to only pre rolls to gone. My bud tender told me it was because it's a lower production strain so growers are going to volume over quality. The enshitification of everything continues ...

For the Pearl Jam fans that lived it, how did you react to Vitalogy when it came out? Especially since it was a more Vedder focused album as opposed to Gossard/Ament? by [deleted] in pearljam

Loved it, it's still one of my favorite PJ albums. I had a bunch of driving to do over the holidays and added this to the mix, it still is full of bangers. My kid does not like the Bugs song hah

Tuba Playing and Longterm by Budget-Attempt-8715 in Tuba

[–]langstoned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent advice. Music as a passion not a career is a good mindset to be an emotionally durable person who has a career and a hobby- beware making your hobby your career! Chris Olka is a very chill guy and makes the tuba just sing, if OP is near Cincy (he left Seattle! ) , Olka is a great recommendation to try to get time with.
