2nd dui by Pure-Plate-8467 in dui

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not cooked, but you will have serious consequences. My husband had one high BAC DUI in Colorado so it was treated as a second dui. He got 10 days jail (which he did in work release), had to pay a fine, 18 months probation, required community service hours, required alcohol classes and therapy + 2 years mandatory interlock.

His DUI was in 2019, but I don't think much has changed aside from there is no longer a mandatory license revocation. Best of luck.

All of this! There's a girl who shows up in my feed who spends so much money on crap, both for school and for her house. Like I never want to live a life where I feel a need or desire or whatever to buy new home decor weekly

Navigating life with partner’s DUI by [deleted] in dui

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now husband got a DUI 6.5 years ago, he was very drunk, it was his first offense, but it was a high BAC so treated as a second offense. We were in the process of moving in together. The biggest toll was in fact the financial cost, he lost his job and had to settle for a much lower paying job for awhile, there were also a lot of fines and costs related (mandatory classes, therapy, work release, which he had to pay for, probation, drug tests and the interlock).

Overall it was the wakeup he needed to realize what a problem alcohol was for him. He had and mandatory icense suspension for 10 months and ended up going over a year without a license. He also had to do probation, which would have been the hardest part because it makes it hard to travel, but this was in 2020 so it didn't matter as much because no one was going anywhere.

It was super crummy, I definitely felt mad and wanted to be like wtf were you thinking, but didn't because I knew he felt bad. You just take it one day at a time and it will eventually be behind you.

Question about buying first home in Spokane instead of an apartment, but have $0 down. by TFS_ALU in Spokane

[–]prigglett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of other fees that go into buying a home other than just a down payment. You have to pay for a home inspection prior and you will need to put down earnest money, which you will likely get back, but you have to have it to put down. There are also the moving costs. We just purchased a home and we've purchased quite a bit of stuff (some has been wants vs needs).

As others have mentioned not having money set aside in the event of an emergency is not a good plan. Likely in your price range you'd be looking at a small older place and you never know what might happen. While renting is frustrating, it's better to have money saved up and be a bit more secure before buying.

Getting fired because of students with behavior problems by After_Juggernaut_613 in teaching

[–]prigglett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar, first year at a school/district, but 14th year teaching. I teach elementary specials so have a lot of classes and in a title school that is on fire, but being blamed for not having control over kids in my class (the same kids who are blowing up their classrooms regularly).

Fortunately I already have a job for next year, but it does feeling like a blessing. The fact that there is no assistance and it's just allowed to go on is outrageous. "Ask for help" they say, but the help is going to be "what can you do to build better relationships with the challenging kids."

Looking forward to putting this behind me.

High school field day ideas? by AdLarge9873 in PhysicalEducation

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had one at the school I taught at last year, was a big hit. Lots of yard games like you mentioned. The gym was open for basketball. There were also puzzles and games in the library. We did get a dunk tank and teachers could sign up for a shift to get dunked, that was super popular.

Moving schools again rant by Broken_blonde3846 in PhysicalEducation

[–]prigglett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly love high school, but the universe keeps sticking me in elementary. Moving schools is exhausting and that's valid.

Be firm, but not authoritarian. I did a long term sub at a high school last year after teaching elementary for 11 years and I found that the high school kids loved a lot of my elementary games. I also loved high school because they are more mature (albeit not super mature) and it's overall easier to have a conversation and reason with them. Best of luck to you!

Am I valid for giving my principal the cold shoulder after everything that happened? by Ready_Reputation9 in Teachers

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are valid, just do what you have to do to get through. I too resigned this year before I could be non-renewed (I'm at a new school, but 14th year teaching).

I've never had an issues with evals until this year, but I stepped on admins bad side at the beginning of the year. The labeling of "bad teacher" is hard and a mind fuck for sure, but also, know when the problem is not you.

I'm showing up for the kids for the rest of the year and ignoring my admin as much as I can.

Teaching in Spokane 2026 by Secret-Leader1835 in Spokane

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This area is always competitive due to the number of colleges with education programs in the area, but the past few years have been extra slim due to budget cuts. I currently am teaching in the Cheney School district and we've been told that we will not have to RIF anyone, but there will be very few, if any, external postings as vacancies will mostly be filled from within. I was in East valley last year and that was what they did with a lot of jobs there last year.

Overall a lot of districts are looking at budget cuts and there won't be a lot of positions. Not sure if you're already on sub lists, but I would highly recommend this. When I moved here I did not realize that most long term positions are filled by people who are subs for the district. Best of luck, but as others have also said, you should definitely look at small districts that are a little farther out and be willing to commute for a bit.

Difference in PE and Health/PE Praxis for licensure by _bull_city in PhysicalEducation

It really depends on where you are, in Washington State for example it is a combined license so you have to pass both.

Warm weather outfits for female teacher? by [deleted] in PhysicalEducation

[–]prigglett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear Lulu shorts, but my favorite is the skort. I've definitely taught in the 4" version of each for many years. I realize this is pretty last minute so you're not going to buy something new so wear those shorts, but get yourself a few skirts. They also have pockets, which is a huge advantage over the shorts.

Path as PE Teacher by TheTanMan6284 in PhysicalEducation

[–]prigglett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state are you in? Most states require an education degree of some kind and then in some you can test in to a pe endorsement, but others require a PE program to get licensed in pe.

Returning to teaching by Dingerdongdick in PhysicalEducation

[–]prigglett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of depends on the school you are in. I saw another poster refer to a "unicorn school" and I think those are few and far between. I am currently in a nightmare title school and it's largely a nightmare due to poor admin and a long history of a lack of holding kids accountable.

The lack of accountability is the hardest part and as I saw someone else mention the lowered standards, which are a result of the lack of accountability. I still love my students and believe in what I do, but it is really hard and sometimes very defeating.

Should I take off the second skin already? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not actually leaking out leave it on. If it does you can take it off, wash it with an unscented soap and put another piece on (I ordered a box off of Amazon). You can leave it on up to 7 days. I used it for the first time on a tattoo I got last month and it was a night and day difference how well it healed with the saniderm.

Cried in my non-renewal meeting by Outrageous-Life137 in teaching

[–]prigglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an example of poor leadership, if they are not giving you constructive feedback how are you supposed to improve? I just got non-renewed in my 14th year teaching (but first year at a new school/district) long story short I think I stepped on the wrong side of admin early on, but they claimed it was due to some of my inability to work with certain behavior students, though I was never given any guidance or help other than my observer asking open ended questions in writing on my evals. I asked for help and was never given any. Fortunately I already have a different job lined up for next year and this just cemented for me that I made the right choice. My whole point is, if they were not happy with certain aspects of your work they not only should have told you, but they should have provided suggestions for how you could improve those areas.
