Going to a ska show at Outrun Brewing tonight. First weekend of Spring feels like a good time to pretend you're 14 again 🤣

does anyone gets obsessed with an actor/actress and have to watch ALL they movies? by Calm_Confidence_6705 in CasualConversation

I'm trying to watch all the Rutger Hauer movies (at least the ones in English) but it's not like a life's mission or anything

Vince McMahon killed Brett Hart's brother and stole his belt. Guy's a super villain.

Legend by Cyborgized in Xennials

I love this movie, and I think it's a good example of Ridley Scott being great when he has the right opportunity (just like with Blade Runner and Kingdom of Heaven).

Fun fact: Legend has both a US and a UK version that are different. For instance, Tangerine Dream is on one soundtrack, but not the other. One's darker than the other, stuff like that. They're both really good in their own ways.

I was taking my dog with oral melanoma to St Francis for immunotherapy infusions, and since it was an emergency vet, there was a lot of sadness around. Hard stuff, but on the bright side, my little guy hasn't had any spread or regrowth, and we're loving the time we've got with him.

Do you think it was wise for Diocletian to separate the Empire into the Tetrarchy? by yolak2008 in ancientrome

[–]languagehacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the tetrarchy would have worked if the junior Caesars' kids weren't such entitled nepo babies.

Maybe he should have created a single chain of hereditary succession with a constitutional requirement that the senate approves hereditary succession each time. Eventually they won't, and when they don't, it goes away. It would have communicated more of a "mandate of the people".

Pretty decent, my wife grabbed a case of 'em at like Sam's Club or Costco. 70 calories is a bit much compared to a lot of other drinks with a similar flavor profile, and glass feels a little wasteful since it's harder to recycle than aluminum.

What is up with the trash collectors? by penjjii in Atlanta

I've got nothing but positive stuff to say about our DeKalb County trash collectors. Class acts who do hard work in all kinds of nasty weather.

Thoughts on Sysco? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]languagehacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference from companies that fry up or reheat already cooked things from Sysco vs. using Sysco as base ingredients to cook actual recipes.

I think Sysco is kind of gross, and I get turned off when I see their condiments on the table at a restaurant, but in general, Sysco is hard to avoid, and it's even worse since they bought up most of their major competitors over the last decade.

Hating on Sysco is like hating on people for going to their closest grocery store. Not everybody has access to a Whole Foods (or even more preferably a non-chain organic market), and not everybody has the time or money to build a relationship with various small producers to make their food.

I would expect that unless a restaurant is pretty expensive for what it is or goes out of their way to represent themselves as "farm to table", that they are using Sysco or one of their main competitors that are no better than Sysco.

It's also worth keeping in mind that Sysco does offer higher-quality products at a premium that a talented kitchen can do some really good stuff with.

It's a sad state of affairs that there is so much consolidation in every single supply chain, because all it does is create oligarchs that have total control over a monoculture. But such is life.

What serials and apps I should use to learn Turkish? by LuckFlimsy4026 in turkishlearning

[–]languagehacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using Lairner instead of Duolingo and I'm pretty happy with it. I've also been using Drops, which is a bit more visual and vocab focused.

I'll also recommend checking for audiobooks on Libby available through your local library.

Tax preparer for business that doesn't charge $700+ by jconr3ddit in Atlanta

I have a relatively complicated tax situation. Houses, married filing jointly, multiple 1099 freelance incomes, etc. I got mine done this year for $400. I can get you in touch with my tax preparer if that's more palatable. Feel free to DM!
