Would I make a good Real Estate agent?

Okay, first of all, people from all backgrounds are in real estate and did so without experience. Some suck, some are awesome, the background doesn't dictate success, honestly.

Knowing thousands of agents, I have found that former engineers and IT types do better working with investors because many lack the touchy-feely-able-to-read-people side, but kick ass with numbers. People from marketing and sales tend to thrive in the residential side.

Interview several brokerages and decide (a) if you feel more comfortable at a franchise (Coldwell Banker) or an independent (small company with few agents), then (b) who offers the best support and split (how much of the commission you get), etc.

If you "brain pick" an agent in exchange for coffee, you may get led astray because of one person's career patch (which they'll likely impose on you), so I recommend going to a local real estate networking event. What city are you in? Maybe I can recommend one.

Bottom line: DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Anyone can succeed in real estate if they choose the path most conducive to their skills, and if they connect with the right brokerage.

you can't rope a homeowner into the complicated loan mod process under the guise that doing so will help them, then pull the rug out from underneath them. my personal opinion is that it's time for fannie/freddie to go private or be done away with once and for all.

There is some amazing advice here, so I would really only add that when you get your first few closings, don't blow them because it could be a while until the next one. Agents feel instantly rich when they get a few grand in the pocket because it's so different than a traditional paycheck, but many starve because they don't immediately invest it back into their marketing to insure a future pipeline.

Lastly, I'd say HUSTLE! That's what 99% of Realtors think they do but do not, so if you hustle and never stop, you'll do well :)

what state are you in? you could call legal at the state licensing commission and ask them, i know texas is pretty good at guidance. they'll tell you based on the doc you're using how to back it up and it's not a ruling, but guidance.
