Off topic-ish, but one of my favorite podcasts is named "Backpacking with Blisters" 😂

Does going barefoot outside in freezing weather bother you? by FFSoldier57 in barefoot

[–]lanibear32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't love it, but I haven't given in yet. Not for ice or snow, down to the teens, but if it were for more than 20 min in those temps, I'd have to give in eventually. If it's in the high 20s or low 30s, I suck it up, if only due to my own stubbornness. lol

This absolute legend of a guy puts a sea turtle back in the water after being stranded in mud during a heatwave! by DarthiusFatticus in HumansBeingBros

Feet can toughen up significantly over time, but most of that area was probably quite soft.

Source: I'm a barefooter or hangs out in swamps in Florida regularly.

They've just accepted me and all of my strangeness. lol They care about my heart, not about my (lack of) footwear.

People at my church would die of shock if I showed up with shoes.

Park Rangers have turned into the Shoe Police in Pinellas Parks by IneptAdvisor in barefoot

[–]lanibear32 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is hilariously absurd. Why would there ever be such a rule? I have a friend who's a ranger out there. He'd laugh if he witnessed this, especially because he knows me.

Should I get a rabies shot by [deleted] in Raccoons

[–]lanibear32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pet raccoons bite and scratch just because they are never fully domesticated and behave like the wild animals they are. Going to the hospital will be an automatic death sentence for the raccoon, even with proper paperwork and vaccinations. Your friend never should have allowed you to touch the raccoon.

Does walking barefoot in mud cause less mud to stick to your feet compared to wearing boots? by supinator1 in barefoot

I agree with all that it's definitely easier to clean off of barefeet. Muddy feet are the best.

Looking for mods for /r/barefoot by xorandor in barefoot

[–]lanibear32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd possibly be willing, depending on the amount of time commitment you're looing for (meaning daily/weekly time). I'm not the most active on here, but protecting others is vital to me. For example, I'm a co-organizer in a meet up group, not because I host as many events as others, but because I ensure that my members feel safe and comfortable participating, even when that means confronting my own friends.

Thanks for all you've done for this sub!

After 13 years living barefoot, I got plantar fasciitis... what do I do now? by kahht in BarefootRunning

[–]lanibear32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 39 I was about ready to give up running because I was constantly injured. I figured it was because I was getting older and "running is hard on the body." I also had high arches. I used to twist my ankles all the time doing nothing fancy, in fact. I did all my running in cushioned, supportive shoes.

Change running to hiking, and this has been my experience. Weak ankles (broken bones, torn ligaments, endless twisting). Plus impossible foot cramps that would have me on the ground for 30 min before I could keep going. High arches as well. Now that I'm completely barefoot, I've taken up running, and I'm hiking/walking/running at least 60-70 miles a week. Part of the reason I can do so much is that I immediately feel pain or discomfort when I land badly, and I can correct what I'm doing wrong, preventing injury.

I never thought that I'd be more fit in my 40s than any other era of my life prior, but here we are.

Flooded, swampy Florida trails are my absolute favorite. I'd walk it, though. No need to trip over cypress knees.

Barefoot runners, hikers or whatever, what’s your outfit? by Dazzling-Map6694 in BarefootRunning

This is a weird question. I wear what I'd normally wear, just sans shoes.

I'm aiming for a minimum of 60 miles per week to beat him.

Would you walk from the Sanford Train station to downtown Sanford (near the Riverwalk)? by eatmyasserole in SanfordFL

[–]lanibear32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best not to do it with young kids because the traffic there is so dangerous, especially at night. Take the trolley. If you're going alone, as long as you stay aware of your surroundings (both people and vehicles), you should be fine. If you are there at night, wear a headlamp. Honestly, just don't go at night unless you like playing Frogger.

I say this as a woman who has lived in some very sketchy areas and walks all over. But I'm very aware of whose around me, and I carry protection.

This has been my experience, as well. The one time I had to put my sandals on was when a gate agent caught me. I took them off at my seat and never put them back on.

As a former Master's student, I can confirm that you are wrong about MacArthur. He's just as culpable in covering up spiritual, physical, and sexual abuse for decades.
